What People Are Saying About Montenapo Ristorante Della Moda

Featured Review

As befits a restaurant housed in the New York Times building, Montenapo is a laudably urbane and polished effort, combining hand-made pastas, meticulous service and a very modern restaurant setting. With high ceilings and glass walls on all four sides, this is one of the least cramped restaurant spaces in town, but it doesn't feel isolating, either. The menu features variations on classic Milanese and northern Italian dishes, with an emphasis on fresh seafood and pastas made with ultra fresh ingredients--like spaghetti with fresh sea urchin and bottarga (dried mullet roe), or trofie (thick…

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
The entrance to the restaurant is on West 41st Street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue.
What to Drink:
A broad range of Italian wines are available by the glass, including some really good ones under $10.
The Extras:
Despite the fact that this is a Milanese restaurant, avoid the veal Milanese; its the same tired, flavorless schnitzel served most everywhere else.

  1. With this sort of un-customer friendly attitude, I suspect that they will not last very long in NYC or anywhere else for that matter.

Worst Meal Ever

by uuyrwds at Citysearch

the ambieance of this restaurant is the best feature. the staff is very unfriendly and slow to take orders. We felt as if we were forgotten about at various points during the meal. I cannot eat certain seasonings and everything was preseasoned, so I asked for a substitution. They offered on to me with an additional charge which I refused. I ordered fish that was filleted table side. The fish had too many bones remaining. When I complained, they offered to get me something else, but my husband had already finished his dinner and we had a show to catch. Instead of winning over new customers by taking the meal off the bill, they gave us a ten percent discount and ten percent off a future meal. After having a bad meal there why would I want to return? I have eaten in far less pricey restaurants where they have deducted meals from tabs when something has gone wrong. Please think twice about patronizing this restuarant. You can get an equally as good, if not better meal at another place. Save your money and go somewhere your business is appreciated and you are met with a smile instaed of a blank stare.

  • Pros: nice decor
  • Cons: service, attitude of wait staff and management, slow staff

Aweful Service

by hkgnyc at Citysearch

Dining at Montenapo was such an aweful experience. Sure, I liked the food, but the service was terrible especially for the price range. Our server didn't bother to show up until 20 minutes after we were seated even though the place was a ghost town. I had to ask twice if they could send our server over. At the end of the dinner, I offered politely contructive suggestions to the manager but instead of respectfully listening, he proceeded to be very defensive and argumentative immediately . I understand that the ownership of this place was changed several months ago. With this sort of un-customer friendly attitude, I suspect that they will not last very long in NYC or anywhere else for that matter.

By the way, anyone trying to use the 10% off coupon from BuildingLink, forget it because they refused to honor it even though it is valid and expires in Nov 2010. Talk about poor business practices.

  • Pros: Good food except for desserts
  • Cons: The worst service I have seen in NYC at this price range

Great Addition

by consumerabc at Citysearch

Well, I ended up spending way more than I inteded but it was definitely worth every cent. I arrived a little early so I waited for my friend at the bar. The server was really friendly, loved his accent. Had a glass of persecco and someone even carried it for me to my table as my friend arrived halfway to it. It was a later dinner and we didnt get our appetizer til about 9 but it was still great coz the food wasn't heavy at all. A surprise having that it's Italian. I think that the serving size was just perfect and even with the main course and wine, we still had room for the delicous dessert. TIRAMISU!

I really hope I can go back again soon.

  • Pros: Lamb to die for!
  • Cons: Decadent Luxury
