What People Are Saying About Ben & Jack's Steak House

Ben & Jack's Steak House
Owner
Ben and Jack, long-time waiters of Peter Luger's Steakhouse, have opened a beautiful restaurant in the heart of Manhattan. We offer prime, dry aged porterhouse steaks and a dazzling assortment of steakhouse favorites. We are proud to announce that Teddy, long-time bartender at Peter Luger's in Brooklyn, most recently a host at Wolfgang's Steakhouse, is now welcoming friends and customers at Ben and Jack's. Our Chef, also, comes from Peter Luger's. Frosted, etched glass rooms are available for private parties. All major credit cards are accepted. At our new location we have many private rooms…

Ben and Jack’s is one of a number of nearly indistinguishable but generally satisfactory steakhouses modeled after the famous Peter Luger, in this case by two former waiters. It’s a spinoff of the first Ben and Jack’s, which is located in midtown, and the food, service and ambience at the two restaurants are exactly the same. Expect the same sliced porterhouse (served on a tilted sizzling platter), gruff waiters, tomato and onion salad and all the other earmarks of the ersatz Luger experience. But the rooms (400 seats on two floors) are nicer, with more polished surfaces and comfortable…
Above Average, More Convenient Than Peter Luger

Went there to celebrate finishing the marathon. Let me start by saying that I think Peter Luger is overrated and has been sliding by on it's reputation for years. There are too many great steakhouses in Manhattan and B&J's is a perfectly good alternative to PL. The service and decor is much nicer, they actually treat you with a little bit of courtesy, they accept credit cards and they're much more convenient to get to. They have nice options for non-steak eaters, a nice wine list and are not overly pricey (not cheap but not excessively priced) The only problem with B&J's is the overwhelming competition of other steakhouses in Manhattan- Bobby Van's, BLT Prime, Del Frisco's etc. I would be perfectly happy to go back to B&J's and would choose them over PL any day.
- Pros: Attentive service, wide menu choices, nice private rooms
