The worst experience I have ever had..
I specifically signed up here so I can review this place. It is the worst haircut I have ever received. My hairdresser is a senior stylist and actually the owner of the place. When I sat down I explained in detail how I wanted it to be cut. I had, long wavy/curly hair, and I just wanted a trim for my split ends and my fringe. didn't want too much to be taken off, because it will make my hair look "poofy".
He wanted to cut my hair when it was dry, fine. First of all, the girl who blow dried my hair didn't even know how to do it because I could still feel my roots being wet, and after she was done there were still bumps all over my hair because she was being so sloppy and didn't dry it completely. I could have done it better myself, and I don't work at a hair salon.
He started cutting, and it was an utter chaos. He didn't even split my hair into sections, he just went wild with the scissors, and didn't complete ANY of the things I asked for. He took of WAY too much, and I honestly felt like he butchered my hair. When he was done, my hair was several inches shorter than I asked for, the ends were spiky and uneven because he cut it while it was dry and didn't even take time to style it. When I left, my hair looked much worse than I came in. He didn't even take time to put some finishing touches on the fringe, it was just a complete chaos. I will never go here again, and now I have to wait months to wear my hair curly again, because it just looks to short and too poofy. I just had a Brazilian blowout and enjoyed walking out of the shower with ready to wear hair, but now, thanks to Geoff Merritt, I have to spend hours on styling my hair because it looks so extremely ugly. Thanks for nothing.
worst hair-experience in 25 years. I wouldn't give it 1 star except that there's no option for zero or negative. Don't go here. seriously. i went once for a blow-out, ok, nothing special but was hoping it would become local salon for colour. But no. Oh no. No no no no no. I asked for someone who knew what they were doing, and the next day turned up to find that it was the principal, Geoff. Absoulutely the worst colour i have had in 25 years. he didn't listen to what i wanted, which was 2 lowlights, then because it turned out so badly he dyed the whole of it a poo-brown colour. I looked worse than Carrie did when she had it done in SATC 1. But because i didn't want to pay another $50 for a blow dry, no one even blew it off gently, Geoff himself had his feet in a pedicure bath and didn't even bother getting up to see what it looked like. No one did. No one cared less, clearly. I couldn't even tell how bad it was because it was so wet when i left. Not even that, but he stained my new white shirt in no less than 4 places. That hasn't happened before in 20 years of having colour. No apology, nothing - and it wasn't as if (as other salons do ) they a) offered to hang it up before hand or b) gave me a gown that covered it. unbelievable. I then wrote twice to the salon, requested money back, something, anything, but never received a reply. please, please, don't go here, its a Total Waste of Time, Effort and Money.
Want great hair? Yi is IT!. I too discovered Yi at Curl Up & Dye. Been going to her about a year or so. I'm actually glad it closed because I like Geoff Merritt much better--it's small, low key, no one has an attitude. Yi--what can I say? I am the most anal person about my hair and my blonde highlights and she always listens to me, then does her artist thing and makes it come out exactly as I want. Every time. She's also great about adjustments--sometimes I want a little more trimmed off than I realized, or want brighter bangs, etc. I drive her crazy and she always comes through. She's professional, meticulous, kind and so funny. It's always good fun getting the Yi treatment. Don't believe any negative reviews on here--they are dead wrong. Yi is the best!
Yi ROCKS. I first found Yi at curl up and dye and had the best haircut I've had in ny. I followed her to geoff merritt and she kept her prices exactly the same for me. Getting your hair done with her is like having it don't by a fabulous fun girlfriend. And my bair always looks great after!
Yi Is Perfect For Me!. I first discovered the amazing Yi at the Curl Up & Dye salon which recently closed, and followed her to her the Geoff Merritt salon at 210 W. 79th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam. Their phone number is (212) 496-9595. Yi is very talented! In addition to her education as a hair stylist, Yi also has formal training as an artist, and really knows color. I have resistant grays and Yi knows exactly what to do, and how to time it, to give me beautiful, lasting, shiny, silky, natural color, and blow-outs that last for weeks. She also gives me a beautiful layered haircut which is much more flattering and easier to manage than the haircuts I was getting before I found her. Yi listens carefully to what I want, and I really appreciate Yi’s dedication to perfection, and great desire to please her clients. When I put my hair in her hands, I’m confident that she’s going to use all her expertise and 12 years of experience to make me look my best and help “restore my youth.” And she’s not just for ladies. I’ve seen her do excellent work on men, too, while I was waiting for my dye to set. So go see Yi.
Come one, Come All, To see the Fabulous Yi !!.
I've been a client of Yi's for 2 years now. She just recently moved from Curl Up & Dye Salon, to the trendy Geoff Merrit Hair Salon.
I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO YI! Her prices has sky-rocketed from her previous prices.
She also charges at least 7% more for credit transactions.
In this city, you can find great services, for a much better deal.
Thanks, but NO THANKS!!!!!
a great salon with a hip fun vibe and great stylists.
My friend told me about this salon - great stylists for great prices. So I stopped by and had one my best experiences ever at a salon.

And, the stylists are sexy. yum
Geoff was so fun!. He spent so much time with me and kept me smiling! I tried a new look and so glad he was the one who could capture it- you are fabulous!! Wish you could move salon to Boston...... Guess you are my excuse to come to nyc hahaha
Must see Mona. A little expensive compared to what I'm used to, but the result was totally worth it!
Cool people, good service!!!. I just walk by and saw New Client Special. Walk in and asked for a haircut. That guy with those crystal blue eyes at the fron desk is gorgeos. He hang my coat, offered a tea, and that was the best irish tea, I ever was drinking. Geoff, who cut my hair was so plesant, and did exactly the haircut I wanted. Thank you guys. I recomend this place for everybody. Go and be happy. CJ
