Ex-Soho House Chef Brings Foodie Cred to Italian Wine Bar. Food at the ultra private Soho House may be off limits to the public, but you can now sample its menu. The former Meatpacking members-only-clubhouse chef Fabio Bano brings his culinary skills across town, losing the pretentious-venue vibe, and showcasing his artisan cooking skills at Cellar 58. Named after its trendy 58 Second Avenue locale, the cozy, low-, tin-ceilinged, exposed brick “Italian tapas” wine bar is an East Village favorite. The railroad-style multiroom bistro seats 80-plus guests from its marble bar tables upfront, to its low-slung Moroccan-pillowed banquettes midway, to its mahogany bar, or out back in its private wine cellar dining room.

Neighbors and worldly wine connoisseurs mingle nightly with hipster denizens and foodie flocking, thanks to nearby DBGB, Peels and Pulino’s—all backed by serious resto big wigs. But neighborhood deal seekers can nosh on Cellar 58’s daily happy hour specials from 4pm-7pm, including $8 gourmet tramezzinis (panini) like the crispy, greasy and delicious mushroom pate with truffle oil, paired with $5 sangria, beer or select wines.

Parties can listen to smooth DJs while choosing from 100-plus bottles of globally imported wines, paired with items like homemade delicate veal meatballs, skirt steak, pappardelle or fresh oysters. Save room for artisanal sorbetto or treats like sour cherry gelato imported from Italy and panna cotta served with local berry puree. Cellar 58 is open nightly, serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

Conversation & Wine. Cellar 58 is a great spot if you're looking for a bar to actually converse. The music is quiet enough in the background to let you talk and hear what is going on. Of course, it gets louder as the night goes on but that's a sign of everyone having a good time.

Great Crowd. I came here with a coworker. There were only a few people when we got here after work but it quickly turned into an intimate crowd where everyone seemed like they were friends. Maybe it was the wine but I had a great time here. Cellar 58 one of those local spots that make NYC great.

Maria the Owner. If you go to Cellar 58, make sure you talk to the owner Maria. She's a great, warm Italian mother who will take of you and your friends. I love her.. There's not a thing I wouldn't do for her, including taking time to write a review for her awesome food and even better wine. Cellar 58 Rocks!

Inspiring Wine. I'm an artist and this place is truly inspiring. By the second glass of wine, the conversation at our table was talking about ideas and concepts that none of us had really thought of. hahaha.. Not sure if it was the Argentinian wine or the crazy friends I was with, but this place is pretty hip.

Girls Night Out. I love this bar. It's great for girlfriend night out even though you probably won't find many boys here. It's a shame. Why are all the best wine spots filled with only women? Boys - you need to stop going to those sports bars and let us women treat you with some sophisticated touches..

Spanish Wines. I heard about this place from coworkers.. It was everything they said, charming, romantic, spirited, spunky, perfect for conversation. They had a dj the night I came. I highly recommend their muscles and Chilean Sea Bass.
