Upscale Lounge.
The Gates was great night and I wish more places in NYC had the same business practices as them. The waitstaff is responsive to client needs, and does so with the proper attitude.
For large groups my friends and I have AccessGotham. com get us a list. We get right to the front of the line with zero hassles, and best of all my guy friends aren't forced to buy bottles!
Drinks are well priced for a classy lounge.
Classy Lounge.
This place is classy. Great crowd and music!
Make sure to have AccessGotham help you plan your next event there. I setup a surprise birthday for my boyfriend and they terrific.
The Gates and AccessGotham played an important part in helping celebrate my boyfriends 26th birthday
Great Lounge. I celebrated my birthday at The Gates and it was really fun! My guy friends could sit and hang out while the girls (and the guys who wanted to) danced. It was a great lounge and I planned my party through AccessGotham so I got right in with no cover! I highly recommend The Gates. It was an absolute blast!
Gilded Era Lounge with Good Beats.
The Gates is a 1920s-style, gilded era lounge where the walls, the rails, even the ceiling are lined in gold. The speakeasy-like spot has a hard door, only discernible by its large brass gates that seem a bit out of place on 8th Ave. next to CVS, Rite Aid and the Gap. Still, it’s on the cusp of West Chelsea clubland, and maybe the special spot should be a bit separated.
With the railroad layout, you can shoot straight through its two large rooms. Past the velvet cloak, walking into the long bar with small chandelier accents, you’ll pass the “influential crowd” that the venue touts, with good beats playing above. The walls are adorned with olive velvet, arched mirrors, and marble – all things you’d think of when you hear the words “Biltmore Hotel,” where much of the decor was salvaged.
The plush furniture is perfect for people-watching, with ample seating in the back by the fireplace. A few banquets are upfront for the lucky to be seated by the standing-room bar.
With small potted palm trees, and carefully crafted signs "dancing is prohibited," the sleek and thrombotic sound system overhead you’ll know you’ve arrived at The Gates. Maybe even tell someone about it … in the club’s phone booth. Better have good service though. There’s no actual phone in there.
LOVE THURSDAY NIGHTS!!.
The Gates is one of the coziest spot i have been to in NYC! Although it is kind of small but it still has it advantages. The music was great and the crowd was great as well.
I Like going to the Gates on Thursdays because that is when it is live and there are beautiful women as well. Europeans also come out there to mingle!!
I was on a promoters list to get which prevented me from paying the cover charge and even got free drinks at the table as well!! i got in contact with Marion (917-557-5787)
Love it. I went on a Thursday and it was crazy!!! The place is decorated beautifully and the drinks are strong and delicious. The music was great I loved the dj. The Gates seems to attract the model crowd. Everyone was tall, thin and beautiful. It's not the biggest venue but they use the size to their advantage. It is exclusive but fun, definitely worth the wait outside!
The greatest place I have ever been in NYC!. The Gates is the most beautiful and classy lounge I have ever been to. As a New Yorker, born and raised my whole life, I know a good spot when I see one. This is a place for the stars and the beautiful. The design is rich and very unique from the marble and mirrored walls to the lighting fixtures; I was amazed the moment I stepped in the joint. Thanks for the experience!! Hopefully I will be invited to another event at this fine establishment.
Opulence. Absolutely loved their cocktails! Hot Mango is absolutely hands down my favorite drink in Manhattan! Not to mention, they have the most charming man-in-a-suit-ager a girl has ever seen! My friends and I love to patronize this hot spot whether it be early in the evening on our way out before dancing on the tables of some less extravagant club or when we are ready for a Ladies Night Out complete with bright red lips and matching Stuart Weitzman pumps!
Gorgeous lounge.
The Gates has a very elegant feel, with it's marble walls and crystal chandeliers. They serve some great specialty cocktails as well as really good appetizers if you're hungry
There has been a good crowd everytime I have gone to the Gates, even on the weekend, since they keep a tight door policy.
