No-Frill Indonesian Eats..
Indonesian food is one of the most fiery and appetizing in Asia, but it is only infrequently encountered in the U.S. But while Java Village, located in the Elmhurst section of Queens, may not be much to look at (it used to be a Chinese takeout spot), it certainly offers a whole lot to taste. Dishes like gudeg (a savory stewed fruit), noodles with beef tendon and sambal terasi (an insane hot sauce) are perplexing, but given how many of them hover around the $5 mark, this is a great place to get acquainted with Indonesian cuisine--but timid palates need not apply!
