NEVER AGAIN!!!!. I used to go to Joseph regularly around 10 years ago--but had to find a new place out by where I live. Now I am back downtown and was so phsyched to have the time to get back to the salon only to find they are not what they used to be--or even a distant cousin. This place is gross. I got a full head of highlights (my color is usually commented on all the time--it just always gets attention) After Joseph's staff got their hands on me, its actually 3 or 4 different colors, and not in a flattering way. I don't beleive it was "finished" so to speak, its orange in some spots, the parts that are the right color, blonde, are fried so badly that I am losing hair on the crown of my head. I went back in, showed the receptionist and was told that owner was "busy" Busy destroying another woman's hair I guess. They refused to refund my money, even partially. That also makes them theives. I don't even care--if thats how they make their money I feel bad for them. I then had to go spend $300 additional to fix their mistake. With stylists that look like that, its no wonder anyone come back. This place has unfortunately turned into a joke.
It is worth trying for a good change!. Ladies: I can only recommend David as he is the only person I have been to at Joseph Cione. If you want to pay less than $100 for a haircut YOU WANT, go to David. I have now been 3 times and each time he has done exactly as I asked, whether he had other ideas or not, and I am always pleased. I like expert advice but grew weary of my former hairstylist listening to me then doing as he thought best. Why pay hundreds to be unhappy? And while it is not the nicest "salon" I have ever seen in NYC, it is without loud music and distraction to me or my stylist. Honestly, I am very particular about my hair and have had some miserable cuts from my former stylist - David gets it and is working with me for what I want. Imagine that - the customer having a say. And the price is under $70 for a wash/cut/blowdry. Barebones place but David is very good for women who want to look good.
Horrible Experience. I when in for a hair cut and so I though everything was fine and they are really cheap. I left and I when home to my family when I got home and my wife saw me the first thing he said was "what in hell did you do to your hair" so did my 11 year son and my 7 year old daughter. when i when to a mirror i look like if an infant had giving me a hair cut. I Immediately call the VINCE SMITH HAIR EXPERIENCE and ask for an appointment if i may say so, it was the best hair cut i have in years had in my life. I ask around and I notice that i wasn't the only one that have been through this many other men have been through the same thing and i mean many many more.
A salon for men NOT women.
I have been searching for a new hair stylist since my wonderful stylist moved away to take care of her father. I live and work in Battery Park City and would love to have a salon in the area that I go to. The reviews for Joseph Cione salon were positive, so I figured what is the worst that can happen?
Well, I am miserable. Justina M. colored and cut my hair. The color is exactly what I asked for (my natural color) but it is not remotely flattering. That is ok because she delivered exactly what I asked for, but I like for stylists to tell me the truth about whether a color looks good or not and to guide me in the right direction. To be clear, the reason I gave this 2 stars instead of one was because the color was done correctly (even though any good stylist would not let this color happen to their worst enemy).
But the cut. My hair was long (right above my bra strap), but the ends were unhealthy due to years of highlighting. She asked me how I wanted my hair cut. I stated that I like the length but that I thought 2 inches should be taken off to make my hair healthier. I went into great detail about how I fix my hair and how I wanted it cut. I was certain she understood what I wanted, and she seemed excited about cutting my hair. She then proceeded to cut off 5 inches and give me a bob - NOT ANYTHING REMOTELY WHAT WE DISCUSSED. By the time I realized what she was doing (by the third snip) it was too late. I am extremely upset, and I would not recommend this salon to women.
Their clientele was primarily men, so it seems like a place for guys not women. I had no way of knowing that since it looks like a women's salon not a barber. But, I know now. If you are female - avoid this place.
Great New Salon. I used to get my hair done at Joseph Cione salon 8 years ago when they were located in the Winter Garden. Now they are next to Au Bon Pain in 1 WFC and I so happy they are back. Gorgeous salon, all brand new and so comfortable and relaxing. I had a cut, color, and manicure and all 3 were terrific. I definitely have found a new place to get beautiful. Thanks
