Ultra-hip, old-timey villager..
The mania for old-timey hipsterdom may have reached its apex with this gorgeous, extremely contrived restaurant, which takes the Old New York theme to its culmination. The menu, by Spice Market and Mia Dona vet Jason Michael Giordano, centers on 19th century dishes like veal cutlets and duck a l'orange, and the space--which is divided into separate areas called The Library, The Salon and The Studio--is done up to look like the private clubhouse of Gilded Age plutocrats. (Well, except for The Studio, which is painted hot pink.) Even before the place opened, downtown scenesters were striving to get in--no surprise, given the pedigree of the owners, who between them have either managed or part-owned Pastis, Freemans, La Esquina, Gold Bar and The Waverly Inn.
