What People Are Saying About A Voce Columbus
The Editor

Citysearch
A Voce Columbus is a bigger, less formal version of its Madison Square Park sister; a fine-dining destination that has continued to flourish even after a new chef, Missy Robbins, took over from Andrew Carmellini. The sprawling, elegant and high-ceilinged A Voce Columbus is more Robbins’ restaurant, with an all-new menu drawn from across Italy, specializing in big, punchy pastas and proteins--think herb lamb chops and orecchiette with smoked pork jowl and arugula. The open kitchen provides a lot of action, but doesn’t completely obscure the magnificent view of Central Park.

We had a reservation for 830.We got there on time and we were told that the table would be ready in 5 to 10 minutes and were asked to wait at the bar. After 30 minutes, instead of being escorted to a table in the main dining room, we were seated right next to the bar. We were not looking to go to a restaurant to eat at the bar – if we wanted to do that we would have specified that, as it is common practice for restaurants to offer that as an option. We asked the waitress if there was a different table and were told that there wasn’t and that this was “one of the best tables in the restaurant.” After seating for a minute we understood we could not enjoy our meal and decided to leave. We have never done this before. We dine in Manhattan regularly and mainly at top Zagat-rated restaurants. This is not the type of service that we would have expected from one of those restaurants. Luckily, we immediately found alternative accommodations nearby at Abboccato, where the food was lovely and the service impeccable, especially given such short notice on a Saturday night. We will not return to A Voce.
- Cons: poor service, noisy
