Bad food, Unpleasant service, and High prices.
Civetta is one of those New York places that think that with bad food, unpleasant service, and high prices they can lure people to come their door through some PR magic. But the sad thing in this case is that there's no magic - no scene or vibe that can make this a worthwhile place for either the food or the lounge. It's better those civetta managers take a quick walk towards La Esquina who can teach them one or two things on how to do it, and you might want to do the same for a better experience. Nolita has so many wonderful places (Public, Esquina, Peasant) that only a martyr at heart should go to civetta!!!
Better you look for a different place!
This one is soooo bad that you probably won't go wrong no matter which other place you chose to go to eventually.
Scenesters flock to this sexy Nolita restaurant.. A golden, winking bird marks the entry to this bustling, bi-level eatery--a fitting logo considering that “civetta” is the word for both flirt and owl in Italian. And while this rustic Italian restaurant, outfitted with hand-carved wooden tables and elaborate candelabras, features plenty of cocktail-swilling customers, the food seems to be almost an afterthought to the people-watching. The eclectic menu, created by the folks behind the popular Sfoglia restaurants, offers Mediterranean-influenced items like shaved octopus, lamb sausage and sea urchin pasta.
