Pleasant Dining Experience

Went for a California Wine tasting that paired 6 of the reaturant's featured dishes and was overwhelmed dish after dish. The duck ravioli was to absolutely die for......
The decor and waitstaff places you in to a nice Hamptons setting with a therapeutic dining experience.

A Charming Meal
by skithor at Citysearch
My wife and I had been walking around the Flatiron District a couple of nights ago and found this charming spot for dinner. We started with lobster bisque and a tuna ceviche, then moved on to an excellently prepared turbot dish and a pork chop dish. Both were extremely tasty and well presented and we thought they were an excellent value -- both dishes could have been served in one of the top restaurants in NYC for much more money. The dessert, which my wife and I shared, was a mochi ice cream dish with peaches, which was also very tasty -- never thought I would actually like mochi ice cream. Overall, I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of the food and atmosphere and we will certainly be back!!
- Pros: Great food
- Cons: None

A bit of the Hamptons in New York...
by S Kotler at Citysearch
Sagaponack is a true hidden neighborhood gem - which is ready to be found. I recently went there with my husband for brunch, and was greeted by a warm and friendly staff. It was a Sunday around 11:30am, and we were seated in the main back area at a very cozy table with a banquette on one side - which is always nice and comfortable. The atmosphere is inviting, and you really do feel like you could be in the Hamptons - outside the city rather than in the hustle bustle of New York - an added bonus.
I could see that they were hosting a group upstairs - and it's the perfect place for an event. Bridal shower, baby shower, birthday, happy hour, or corporate luncheon - it's a large private space that would be great for a larger party.
Besides the attentive service, pleasant surroundings, and inherent coziness of Sagaponack - the food was GREAT! The menu was filled with favorite brunch choices as well as some added twists, including blueberry ricotta pancakes, country grits & eggs, several salad options, a lobster roll, and even a char-grilled burger. My husband opted for the traditional eggs benedict and I went with the eggs florentine. We both had lattes. I have to say that my latte was served perfectly hot, and it was really good. A lot of times restaurant coffee just misses the mark - but this latte was spot on. And besides the fabulous biscuits that were served while we looked at the menu, the brunch was absolutely delicious! Instead of being on a regular english muffin, the eggs were on fresh brioche bread - a very nice added touch. To top it off there were fantastic hash potatoes, and perfectly-poached eggs. We were extremely happy with our brunch choice, and even happier after we ordered the banana cream pie for dessert which was homemade that minute (pie shell, with fresh custard, whipped cream, bananas, and a raspberry sauce) and absolutely to die for! We were super excited to find a fabulous local spot for weekend brunch. We also took a look at the dinner menu - which was equally as interesting...
So...a week later we returned for dinner. The restaurant did a great job transitioning to an evening crowd - dimmer lights and dinner-appropriate music, but still a welcoming environment. We were seated in a cozy, corner table – with one side having that same banquette. The dinner menu was filled with interesting and tasty dishes – 8 appetizers and 6 salads that all sounded delicious. We opted for the octopus spring roll – which we had never heard of before – and it was excellent with great flavors. We also had a mixed green salad and seared tuna tataki – both of which were really good. We were off to a good start. Service was attentive, and we were enjoying our meal. The choice of mains was equally as tough as there were so many great sounding dishes – and a great mix of options. We ended up getting the filet au poivre, the pan roasted skate, and the pan roasted chicken. All were homeruns! The food arrived hot, cooked to perfection, and, most importantly, incredibly tasty. I tried all three and could not tell you which one was the best – all were delicious. We saved a tiny bit of room for dessert, and devoured their killer brownie sundae and freshly made strawberry shortcake – made with scones. Soooo good!
Head chef/owner and general manager team of James and James is a winning combination. From the fantastic food, to pleasant atmosphere, to the friendly staff – I will definitely be adding Sagaponack to my list of local faves. You definitely will too – for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, you can’t go wrong here. And let’s not forget – reasonable prices – which is always a consideration these days. Experience a little taste of the Hamptons right here in New York – and without the 2 hour drive in traffic!
- Pros: Delicious brunch and dinner, cozy atmosphere
- Cons: None
