What Our Expert Scouts Say

January 10, 2013

A big, boistrous, celebrity-filled adjunct to a popular nightclub, Abe & Arthur's shouldn't be good, but it is -- they serve some of the best beef in town, better in fact than some big-name steakhouses.

Abe and arthurs. Food was good, although the soup I had was cold; our waiter apologized and comped it. The only thing that was annoying was that we made 9:30 resy and they didn't sit us until 10:15.

Abhorrent Hostess Service. This restaurant is in a fantastic location and the decor is tastefully done. However, the service at this establishment is abhorrent. Principally, the hostess service. Instead of apologizing each of the 3 times we asked if our table was ready during the 50 minutes we were waiting, we were, quite literally, screamed at and told we were being impatient. In my 15 years of dining in this city I have never encountered such a rude hostess. A simple, "I am sorry we are doing the best we can to get you seated as soon as possible" would have been all that was needed to keep us happy. Instead, I am writing this review and recommending you all stay far away from Abe & Arthur's until a new hostess has been hired.

New outdoor seating and brunch. Have been for dinner twice now and plan to return again. The food and service has been great each time. I will keep going back for the tuna tacos. Now i plan on going to sit at their new outdoor seating which is set in a great area to people watch. I have heard great things about the Chef, Franklin Becker, and hope that he opens another restaurant.

Delicious New Hotspot!!. I had been hearing great things about this place for a while but was hesitant to make a reservation. Finally I caved and got a reservation for a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. It was packed with young people and had a great atmosphere. Loud but fun, great for people watching. An incredible drink menu and extensive wine list. I was extremely impressed by the food, especially the desert. It was a sight to see. Check it out.

Disappointing on every level. We were excited to try their new brunch two weeks ago and from the moment we walked in, it was a disappointing experience. Three people wished us a 'good evening' (at 1:00pm). The waiter couldn't answer any of our questions about the menu, and when we asked what the lobster salad was like, he struggled to answer that 'there's a lot of lobster in it'. It showed up with four spears of asparagus, and three chunks of lobster on top, with a slab of buratta. Without any alcohol, two of us paid $85 for a brunch that sent us home hungry. In a neighborhood of many other choices, pick anything else. This is a rip-off.

A perfect meal. Let me start by saying I can't stand the Meatpacking District. The people are so desperate to be "fabulous" and void of any real and/or interesting personality. That being said, it was worth the trip for Abe and Arthur's.

Our waitress (Melissa) could not have been any sweeter and attentive. She was charming and made great recommendations for the meal. The homemade pasta was amazing (a tad pricey for the portion, but delicious) and the steak and lobster tail were the best I'd ever tasted. We had the french toast bread pudding for dessert, but ALL the desserts sounded unreal. The ambience was sexy and our table felt intimate overlooking the first floor dining area.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience and are planning on going again soon.

truly wonderful. the full experience! top to bottom a good time..

started off with the cheese topped pop overs, followed by some delicious sliders, spinach dip and the tuna tartar tacos. so gooooood!

then had the wood grilled Bronzino special and my friend had the NY Strip.. 2 of the best we've ever had!!

we shared he mac n cheese and the truffel fries! LOVED

desserts we almost my favorite part! Donuts that we dipped in Chocolate and filled with our choice of Sauces (i liked the strawberry)

and had the French Toast Bread Puding! INSANE!!! U gotta try this or u are missing out!

crowd was great, music was more background vibe but good selections to keep the energy goin.. i made a res for next week on my way out and cant wait to return!

Citysearch Editorial Review. Located in the space formerly occupied by Lotus, Abe & Arthur's still has the nightclub vibe, but it’s a very different sort of restaurant. Chef Franklin Becker (Brasserie, Sheridan Square) has been chomping at the bit for a chance to establish himself as one of the city's top chefs, and Abe & Arthur's gives him a major platform for high-end versions of American classics including fish tacos, steak, crab cakes and the like. These are all much better than they need to be to satisfy the clubgoers, who are likely just killing time before heading downstairs to the swank SL lounge (with which the restaurant shares a space), but Becker is determined to make the food special, and Abe & Arthur’s--despite its rock soundtrack, frosted windows and boo-yah hotties--is a legitimate restaurant, comparable to the nearby Standard Grill.
