Citysearch Editorial Review. Though the bar scene on the Upper East Side can sometimes seem stuffy, Daniel Boulud’s plush Bar Pleiades feels like a breath of fresh air. Perhaps in a cheeky nod toward the designer bag-toting, cocktail-swilling ladies of the neighborhood, the Surrey Hotel’s ground floor bar features a luxurious, Coco Chanel-inspired black and white space with recessed trompe l’oeil booths and wall details sporting that famous purse-style quilting. Drinks such as the Beijing Mule ($15), made with saffron-roasted pear, vodka, yuzu and house-made ginger beer are similarly upscale, with price tags fitting for the haute ‘hood.
