“Attractive space, terrible service”
Attractive space, terrible service. I met a friend at Rye House on a rainy Sunday night. I'd heard much of its loveliness and, indeed, it is a gorgeous space. We sat down at the bar and waited for ten minutes until the bartender approached us and asked if we had a menu. We replied "no." A menu never arrived. Kindly, the gentleman sipping bourbon next to us passed one over. We waited another 10 to 20 minutes and were NEVER served. The bartender wandered past us several times and we tried to catch her eye.but nothing. Also, the place was not packed.. We opted to pack up and leave. Notably, my friend talked to the host about our experience and he was sincerely apologetic but it was too late. After all, there are so many incredible spots in the city - why subject your self to that and pay cash for it in the end? We went around the corner to Boqueria where we were served immediately and enthusiastically.
Great upscale bar food and ambiance. Rye House has a great ambiance with an upscale twist to its bar apps. The fried mac and cheese balls are a must!
Citysearch Editorial Review. Classing up the Union Square area, this handsome gastropub serves bourbon, classic cocktails, craft beer--and fried pickles. Rustic and stylish, the lounge is outfitted with reclaimed wood and a long, curvy bar stocked with enough brown spirits to intoxicate downtown Manhattan. The dozens of peppery ryes and sweet bourbons can be sipped neat, but they’re better incorporated into creative cocktails such as the Appleseed Cobbler (bourbon, applejack and cinnamon bark syrup) and the 17th Street Sazerac. If booze ain’t your bag, the dozen craft beers should do the trick. Oh, and bring the posse: The communal picnic table can fit up to 25 fellow revelers.
