For a space owned by an artist, Kinski is remarkably unadorned: plywood walls, wood floors and a large wooden communal table. Lonely--and hungry--in her studio, Zipora Fried often missed the knödel of her homeland, so her cafe specializes in these dumplings, as well as other Czech-Austrian specialties. Both the apricot and nougat knödel are served with vanilla sauce and whipped cream. Savory options range from fried cheese with spinach to “bread” with mushroom sauce. And open-faced sandwiches consist of a thick slab of bread topped with a spread, such as cranberry nut topped with herbs and goat cheese.
