Loud, Rude, and Inept: For Drunk Tourists Only!.
I can only imagine that the reason Pio Pio's overall rating is this high is that it's only been reviewed by drunk tourists who don't know any better. And "tourists" includes anyone who just moved here, or only eats in big loud touristy restaurants and has no relative concept of quality or value. The one star is for the kitchen, as the chicken that finally arrived was reasonably tasty (though it came with no sides and no sauce). The entrees arrived over an hour after we sat down and we were never brought our drinks or appetizers. I finally went upstairs to the bar and bought a bottle of wine and brought it back to the table, so I could have a glass with my chicken.
The service was slow, incompetent and just plain rude. Then we were charged for many of the items we ordered that were never delivered. The level of noise and service were both unacceptable by the standards of anyone who has eaten out in New York City before.
I am not normally reactionary and I have to be truly offended to write this kind of review, but I left Pio Pio wanting my money and those 2+ hours of my life back. This place is expensive, loud, and awful. Don't waste your time here. There are literally thousands of restaurants that will treat you better for far less money.
Worst service. We went for lunch and were the only people in the restaurant initially. Paper tablecloth and napkins did not fit the prices on the menu or the decor. At least there was metal flatware, not plastic. Ordered a pitcher of sangria and ceviche. Delicious. Other diners arrived, ordered, and were served. We waited 1 hour, no entree. Decided to leave and go to bar next door to eat. Wait staff disappeared, then were not apologetic. Manager was not apologetic. Charged us full price, also. No amends. Pathetic, and we won't go back. And we will deflect our friends from visiting there, since manager and staff were awful.
MY FAVORITE PLACE. I recommend this restaurant to anyone. Their food is great and affordable. Their Sangria is fantastic. You need to order the pitcher. I've been to all their restaurant. I'm a true fan :)
Best Peruvian Fusion NYC area.
Cant get enough of Pio Pio in Hell's Kitchen, NYC
All their restaurants are amazing, but the menu at this 10th Avenue location is out of this world ..delicious!
Prices are fair, and their cocktails sublime!
I take everyone I want to impress there....yummy!!
I love this place!. My peruvian friend recommended this place. I thought her raving reviews were biased, but when I went I fell in love. The Sangria was to die for! 2 cups and I was already too giggly. The food was delicious. The ambiance was great to go with someone and have a conversation.
Seafood, Sangria and Affordable.
A step up from their other borough locations, Pio Pio is one of my favorite spots to hit up. I was prompted to write a review because it is a hidden spot on 10th Avenue and you wouldn't think that this restaurant is a definite hit among locals.
Enjoy the Jalea if you're in to seafood, beware though, this is family style dining. I usually get the Matador plate with my friends and we are stuffed. Jalea + Matador plates with one appetizer and a couple bottles of Sangria, you're paying about 25 per person if you have about 7-8 people in your group. The sangrai is to die for and it will sneak up on you if you're not careful. Candlelit tables with soft Spanish music playing in the background adds a sense of romanticism to this large two story restaurant. You wouldn't know it's such a great place just by looking at the small foyer from 10th Avenue. This place is a definite must when you have friends in town too.
I recommend Pio Pio to everyone! The Peruvian style cuisine, Sangria that sneaks up on you and great location makes you feel more like you're in heaven than hell's kitchen.
