Amazing, Affordable, and Awesome.... Had heard about this place while it was in Brooklyn and never made it. Went last night and was blown away. My fiance is from LA and a serious Mexican fanatic and snob. She is never satisfied when we are done with a NYC Mexican meal. Last night as we were leaving she was asking when we can get back there. We sat at the bar in the back which was fun. Have the carnitas. The best pork I have had in a long time and I love the swine.
Love this place!. Dined here on a rainy weeknight and had such a great time. The bar had a nice crowd consisting of hipsters with fedoras and plaid shirts. They have a long brick wall in the dining room and a communal/bar table in the back room that looks over the kitchen. I drank the sangria which was a glass of Malbec with vodka and soda- delicious! My friend who is preggers had the sangria soda and it was super yummy as well. We split the guacamole- homemade but not table side- still delish with fresh chips. We also had shredded crab over corn cakes (good), berkshire pork tacos (great) and steak burritos (yummy). They were served with 3 salsas/sauces to dip and we absolutely loved our meal. For dessert we had the flan which had a bit of a chocolate crumb bottom and it was the perfect ending to terrific, affordable food. The portions were a tad small, but priced accordingly making sharing and ordering more to sample possible. As we left the crowd at the bar was bigger, so for those looking for a scene should come later (obvi- its the Bowery). Defintiely worth a visit. I'm going back for the World Cup games there- they have specials!
Citysearch Editorial Review. When it was located in Dumbo, Brooklyn (hence the name), it dished out upscale versions of Mexican street food and plenty of potent cocktails. Now that it’s on the Bowery, Hecho en Dumbo is serving the same food in smaller, sexier digs, with dressed-up patrons sipping margaritas at the long bar, past which is a dimly lit dining room lined with exposed brick and rustic wood planks. The inspiration might be street food, but it’s prepared with care: tacos made with homemade tortillas and Berkshire pork, halibut ceviche set over the house guacamole, grilled gulf shrimp in a chile pasilla sauce and more made-from-scratch goodies.
