Good chinese place.. I went here on a recommendation by a close friend. To cut to the chase, this restaurant is top notch. If you like shrimp you will die for the Grand Marnier Shrimp. Have it as an appetizer and the move on to the sweet and sour pork. If you like something a little on the spicy side try the Mongolian beef. It is top notch. This is a must visit Chinese restaurant. I am going back again with some business associates for lunch this week. This is just 3 days after my dinner there. Oh yes, it is that good!

Dim Sum Meals at Lychee house. I have now had three Dim Sum meals at Lychee house and can say with a straight face, to the most critical Sinophile, that piece for piece, it is as good as Chinatown Brasserie and, unless you¹re looking for offal, curious seafood or the lower extremities of fowl, even better than most places in Chinatown, including the Golden Unicorn.

There are more than a dozen dishes ranging from familiar Seared Pork Dumplings, Shanghainese Soup Dumplings and Cha Shu Bao (Cantonese Roast Pork Buns), to the more exotic Pomegranate Shaped Peking-style Crispy Pork Shu Mai and nearly sublime Foie Gras Dumplings.

The dishes are made-to-order but what they have in common, whether they originated in Northern or Southern Chinese kitchens or in a Singapore ³Hawker¹s² stall, is that they¹re fresh and clean tasting and manageable in a bite or two.

Worth special consideration: The Foie Gras Dumplings are wrapped in a delicate transparent skin through which the wonderful earthy flavor of Foie Gras fills the mouth. The Coral dumplings also thin-skinned, is filled with a whole rather than chopped shrimp. The Singapore ³Hawker² Style Fishhballs, with a crispy rice exterior, combine subtle ocean taste with a happy texture.

Over my three visits, I¹ve eaten every item on the Dim Sum menu. On each visit, I ate with one colleague, and we found that five plates, followed by an order of Shanghanese Flat Noodles w/ pork, were more than sufficient to walk away feeling well fed. A sweet dumpling called Snowflake Nuomici, which is charming in every sense of the word, completed each meal. This is one Hong Kong favorite that actually satisfies my very Western sweet tooth.

Modern Chinese. This place is so gooood. I work in the area and I have been getting my food from Lychee house with my work buddies. I frequently get the soup dumplings - which are really good, best i have ever had.

They are very friendly and have great service. Check this place out, you wont be disapointed.

Worst service and terrible food. This restaurant is one of the terrible service places in New York. Tonight (11/8/08) we had services from manager and other staff. The food was worst. We had stomach problem after we got to home. Never go to the place to eat. Chinese food cannot be trusted.

Obnoxious Manager had the audacity to tell us our tip was unacceptable.. I have never written a bad review but this time I have no choice. To begin with, the staff was impatient because we only had appetizers. (As if we owed it to them to order more.) The last straw was that the Owner/manager actually came to our table after we paid the bill to tell us that our tip was not enough (and he was very surly about it, telling us that 'This is New York.'). News flash, genius:

1. Tips are discretionary. And we had already given 15%.

2. We are from New York, so we recognize obnoxious when we see it. We are never coming back.

3. No wonder the place was practically empty in the middle of the dinner rush hour in midtown.

Delicious Food, Wonderful Table Service. I recently came for lunch to Our Place and was delighted with a friendly smile when I walked in the restaurant. I was seated almost immediately and greeted by my server with water and a smile. I ordered from the lunch menu and was greatly surprised at how big the portions were. Overall I was really happy with the quality, quantity, and the service that was given to me!

Best In Midtown. As Our Place is one of my favorite Midtown Chinese restaurants, I wanted to answer the recent review by DumpyBumpy. First, if DumpyBumpy was interested in the Shanghai dishes, he should have order off that section of the menu.

He/She's correct that most dishes in the menu are New York-style Chinese dishes but that's because those are the dishes the restaurant's customers seem to crave?and if the crowd at lunch and early dinner is any indication then that crowd pretty well reflects the ethnic make up of New York, including quite a number of Chinese. Perhaps the next time DumpyBumpy should order the Shanghai Style Whole Braised Pork Shoulder, which is a delight, or the Lion Head. My favorite is the Shredded Beef with Flowering Chives, which has never failed to satisfy my taste for complexity. There are a 1,000 Chinese restaurants where DumpyBumpy could order Moo Shu Pork, perhaps he should have ordered instead the always excellent Braised Soft Beancurd or the Flat Noodles. As for the Soup Dumpling, I'd put Our Place's

against Joe's Shanghai's (any Restaurant) any day of the week. In the final analysis, I don't know why DumpyBumpy, who described the service as "amazing" didn't ask to speak to the manager and express his wishes for "authentic" Shanghai dishes. The restaurant has always accommodated my requests. I think it's important to answer reviews of this nature, because its silly to judge a restaurant, based on one meal during a busy lunch hour, and Our Place is packed between 12 and 2:00. I've had disappointing dishes at Nobu and even Jean Georges but would not say they don't deserve their reputations.

In closing, after many visits over the course of the years, Our Place continues to hold its own against the City's best Chinese restaurants.
