Super Clown Audio.
Jim Coleman is a Clown. In addition to being a hack wannabe musician, he has no idea what he is talking about. Stay far far away from this guy especially if he wants to play trumpet for you.
If you are a jazz musician however, he is a good guy to get over on because he will be so enamored with you and the fact you can actually play that you can probably borrow $100 bucks from him and he won't have the balls to ask for it back, and
Audio Video Salon. You have been warned!!! Stay away from this thief!!! He is so untrustworthy and a smooth talking jerk. Ripped me off by charging several thousands of dollars on my credit card without my knowledge!!! Thank God I got charges reversed. He screwed up my installation and had to have whole system redone!!! I really thought I hired a pro-turned out to be a pro thief!!!
Very professional. I came to Audio Video Salon in the Upper East Side because a friend of mine highly recommended them. He was right. This crew is extremely professional. They have been doing high end entertainment systems since the technology originated. Jim knows all and gave great advice on what equipment fit my needs, my space, and my budget. Then his team installed everything meticulously in a very timely manner. I will use AV Salon for all my home theater needs and so should anyone who values quality. Thanks Jim!
Best AV People I've Used.
I’ve been with AV Salon for more than 3 years now. They just completed an entire system overhaul for me. I could not be happier. These guys do an A+ job from start to finish. The design, installation and programming are simply top notch. They take the time to get it right the first time and they take every single minor detail seriously. If something ever breaks they have someone there the next day without fail. I would recommend AV Salon to anyone. Some reviewer seems to have a personal gripe against Jim and AV Salon. Don’t listen to him. These guys are true pros, easy to work with, and you will be thrilled with the results.
Just to refute what the nutjob posting here says, they had to do some painting for me after they mounted the TV, just to touch up a few scratches. There was a crack in the paint probably 7’ away from the TV, nothing to do with them or their work. It was from the building settling and had been there for a year or more. They took the time to strip, prime, and paint that just to be nice. They really do go the extra mile.
Didn't even get past the initial phone call. I called this store to find out what kind of speaker lines they carry for home theater use because I'm auditioning various speakers for a new home theater set up and the owner would not even tell me what lines they carried unless I came in and paid a $100 consultation fee. I said, "So you won't even tell me what brands you carry?" He answered "Absolutely not."
Top rated AV company as per Time Out NY and Manhattan User's Guide. Attentive, professional service. As far as I know, it's the only company in New York that has a systems engineer with a Master's Degree in electronics engineering. They actually have a model apartment with a $500K system that works beautifully to the extent that the client who owns the system, loves to be a spokesperson for AV Salon. 40 years in business and still going strong for some reason. Because the owner is a musician, he knows something about music reproduction.
WORST SERVICE - THE GUY IS A NUT CASE. I have lived in NYC for 10 years now and have never experienced service like this. Whoever the guy is that plays the trumpet is a nut case! He literally chased us out of the store and we only went in to comment on the great music we heard from the street. I WILL WALK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET WHEN ON THIS BLOCK. THE MAN IS AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very rude and doesn't do what says he'll do. i wish i had read these reviews before i called AV Salon. I have never posted about a company or restuarant before but the terrible treatment and the unacceptable work provided by audio video salon has driven me to issue this post. Not only was the owner condescending and rude, repeatedly referring to his multi-hundred thousand dollar typical installations, dismissive of other very highly regarded professionals in the business, but also, they installed an inferior speaker cable to what they promised and did totally shoddy work. When i called to ask them to return to correct the job he again referred to his 20+ yr reputation and yelled at me and then hung up the phone on me. Oh, and i forgot to mention that he charged me 4 times what he told me it would cost to run the speaker wires. He claimed his guys had to take the extra time. Folishly i trusted them to work in my apartment on a saturday while i wasnt there so i dont even know if they really worked as long as they said that they did...So basically, they are way beyond rude, take advantage of clients who are not experts, install subpar speaker wire (and who knows what else), lie about it, install totally wrong wires (installed a coaxial cable and claimed it was a subwoofer cable), claim to have this outstanding 20+ year reputation for excellence but the only thing i've been able to find are the reviews on this page (and ones like it) that tell the actual truth about what a terrible place it is. TELL EVERYONE THAT YOU KNOW - DO NOT USE AUDIO VIDEO SALON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still in business?. I can't believe it. This dealer has the guts to ask for an admission fee of $18 just to browse his store. He must think very highly if himself and his store. That was back in 1994. The salesman had an impatient attitude of buy something or get out. I'm so surprised to find out he's still in business. His prices are over-inflated for the service he provided to my rich friend. But for a non-suit minority like me, he didn't give a damn.
Not worth your time or money, SHOP ELSEWHERE.
This guy is lucky he is still in business from the way he treats his customers! He just lost thousands of dollars of my potential business. What a moron.
A little background info before I go into the recent horrible experience with Audio Video Salon... So I have been making alot of major purchases for my home A/V system as of late, and have many more to go before it's all set. So, being in New York city and having quite a few audiophile shops within reach, it is Imperative that I try out each shop with a couple small orders first to see how they operate and if their customer service is up to par ? before I drop thousands on new equipment. I've done this with a few shops, bought 500 bucks worth of cables, etc.
Well, so I contacted Audio Video Salon recently to order a Vienna Webern series speaker (for my center channel), a wall mount kit for it, as well as a horizontal tabletop stand. Dropped a little over a grand for it. All arrived, and I was happy... for now.
I just moved into a new loft space, and the movers busted up one of my speaker stands. It needed replaced so I called him again. I explained what happened, and asked if he could order this for me. He promptly said he will no longer do these types of orders for me, and only deals with larger orders. He was very rude and acted like my business was not worth his time. Little did he know I am in the market for spending another 5 grand on a couple things for my system. Who feels like an *sshole now? Take your purchases elsewhere, this guy is caught up in his upper east side stuck up world. Oh btw, Stereo Exchange is no better. You'd be better off ordering your stuff online or heading up to Boston. Better audio shops, better service. End of story.
