Given the popularity of “Gossip Girl” and “Harry Potter,” perhaps it’s no surprise to see a prep school-style cafeteria--complete with long, communal wooden tables and red plastic trays--take center stage at the trendy Hudson Hotel. Youthful waiters at this contemporary mess hall serve frat-style tipples (think Kamikazes and Lemon Drops available by the shot, glass and pitcher), though you’ll need to fetch your own meal, buffet-style, choosing from an assortment of organic and sustainable small plates including Wagyu beef sliders, ahi tuna tartare and tater tots. While the concept is cool and the drinks are strong, some dishes (like the dry age rib eye) don’t fare as after sitting out under the heat lamps near the exposed open kitchen.
