This is an AMAZING afterschool program. Absolutely the best program my daughter has ever done. She loved the beginner class so much in 2nd grade that she went back to advanced in 3rd grade. The hands-on experiments, ability to interact with live animals, the well-prepared and engaging lessons -- AWESOME! Dr. Dave is a warm, inspiring and talented teacher. Perfect for boys or girls. For any child who's interested in animals, science, medicine of hands-on learning. Totally worth the time and money.
Amazing after-school Vet Science program.
Dr. Dave's passion for animals, science and teaching is truly contagious.
I must admit that I enjoy the class as much as my 7 yr old son.
I've never seen a program where the kids are exposed to real life vet medicine.
They couldn't be happier because they wear lab coats & stethoscopes & they see real case studies from video to live animals. They learn how to use their eyes ears, hands and tools necessary to analyze and diagnose the patient's problem of the week.
There is a grossness factor from 1-10 and the kids revel when it reaches gross factor 11!
With all this real life hands-on vet science exposure, you'll be impressed by you’re child’s understanding of basic medical concepts. But, you’ll be blown away at their new found ability to use their deductive reasoning skills.
Don't miss it.
The Warm World of Dr. Dave.
There is no place more special for an animal lover like my daughter than Dr. Dave's Little Vets class; we consider ourselves lucky to have found it. Remarkably thoroughly yet lively enough to engage the class, Dr. Dave zipped the students through a series of important mediccal topics, shying away from nothing, allowing the children to express along the way their interests in science, animals, and the tools and procedures of medicine. Appreciating the mind of a child (videos of procedures and other activities were labelled "Grossness Factor 1-11,") Dr. Dave knew how to break concepts down for instruction and then bring them together in the hands-on activities: the very essence of good teaching. My daughter will never forget the lessons in the class -- if she was not dressing up as a red blood cell to carry brown "CO2" balloons through the body in a running bases game, she was searching for mites on a miserable dog programmed to tell her, "I'm itchy." I was also pleased that she had the chance to work with real dogs and cats in a real hospital - we passed animals under treatment every week on our way to the classroom - because it helped impress on her the empathy that can not be simply taught (but which Dr. Dave had plenty of).
This is the most unusual afterschool activity you can imagine, and also the most valuable, especially if you have an animal lover and/or a scientist on your hands. It was a unique and lucky opportunity for us.
