Tips for The Village Pourhouse - Hoboken

September 10, 2012

My husband and I came here this past Sunday for the first Sunday of regular season football. We decided that we would go early (around 11:30am) and have some lunch together before the rest of our group showed up. When we arrived, the bar was empty. The tables had papers on them noting they were reserved so we started out to pick out a spot at the bar. We chose 2 seats at the end of the U shaped bar, as there were several televisions within range that would be showing all of the games that our friends were coming to see. We sat down and ordered 2 entrees and a couple drinks from our bartender. The bar slowly started to fill up over the next hour. After we had already spent money on food and drink, the manager walked up and placed a reserved sign on the bar in front our plates of food after we had already been sitting there for at least an hour. We asked the bartender how bar stools could be reserved after we had already been sitting there, and she told us not to worry about it and removed the sign. By this time, my girlfriend showed up and my husband happily gave up his seat to her so we could sit together as he stood behind us and took in the game. As we're sitting there, we are approached by a group of grown men who stated that they were regulars at the bar and that we were occupying seats that belonged to them. I explained nicely that we were there since 11:30am and occupied the seats like you would at any other bar, first come first serve. He repeatedly got aggressive not only with my husband but with myself and my girlfriend, stating that he allowed us to sit in the chairs for the last 2 hours and that we needed to get up so he and his friends could sit. Management did nothing and turned a blind eye as their "regulars" harassed, bullied and got increasingly aggressive with PAYING customers, 2 of which were women. To be forced from our seats after spending $100 is disgraceful. My husband and I left the bar to avoid further confrontation. We will never return and if others are smart they will stay away....you better off spending your money at an establishment who appreciates your business.

Fun bar!. I was here last night! I had a great time celebrating my friend's birthday. Wonderful spot if your main goal is to get wasted! drinks are fairly priced and strong.

awesome sports bar. Kept meaning to check it out after some of my friends went to their grand opening event and ended up there with a couple friends for the giants game yesterday. Definitely the new hoboken hot spot considering how many people I bumped into over there. Service was good, a little slow but I guess because they were busy? Awesome death wings though! Probably be back again next Sunday..
