Real Russian and REALLY Great!.
AMAZING!!! I'd just read an article in The New Yorker about "real" Russian cuisine and the use of a brick oven (which these guys have). We asked our adorable (and truly Russian) server a lot of questions and took all of his suggestions. Everything was EXTRAORDINARY. Five stars because there isn't a single thing to criticize or change. Here's what we had (and LOVED):
- Stuffed Cabbage Golubci - Barely had to chew, it was so tender.
- Pozharsky Cutlets - Scrumptious! A heavy dish with gravy.
- A deep fried whole red seabass (I THINK! I can't find this on their current menu but the server recommended it). The gravy that came with this was delicious and we couldn't stop eating the fish.
- Halva Parfait - Made from sunflower seeds, it was smooth, nutty, and not too rich. Perfect after this humongous meal!
Had two incredible cocktails too! Can't find them on the menu but one had St. Germain and the other was a more savory twist on a mojito.
The food was perfect, but I have to say, I LOVED the decor! I didn't want to leave the bathroom. We were told they have karaoke on Tuesdays and will DEFINITELY be back!
The Newest Addition to the Russian Scene. Great food, Very nice decor, loungy music and delicious delicious food! This place is ideal for big groups or a romantic date!
Authentic Russian/Ukrainian food!!!. 'All I have to say is that this is the best Russian restaurant in NEW YORK period. Prices, food and atmosphere everything was excellent. Special thanks to chef. Will definitely visit again.Would recommend to everyone who wants to try authentic Russian/Ukrainian food."
Surely a Palate Pleaser. " Out of curiosity, my fiancée and I dined at Onegin. We decided to order food that were new to us and haven’t tried before. When the food came, we were lured by the wonderful presentation and didn’t have any hesitation in eating it. As good as the food looks; it was surely a palate pleaser. Now, we go to Onegin, every chance we got."
Great food and SO much fun. Sorta difficult to describe Onegin in words...it's one of those places you definitely have to experience in order to "get". Nonetheless, the food is quite good. The service can be a bit slow at times, but you usually don't notice because so much else is going on ha.
funnest brunch ever!. who says brunch has to be about just being hungover? onegin's brunch keeps the buzz going and sorta just creates one long party.
Love this place. This isn't just a restaurant, it's an entire experience. From the extremely ornate decor to the music they play to the food they serve, everything about Onegin is unique. It's one of those places you go and almost forget you went there to eat in the first place...you just wanna party!
Party!. Get ready to do just that when you go to Onegin. Everyone here knows how to get down. And the food is SO delicious!
so very unique. from the moment i stepped into onegin, i was impressed. the design alone is enough to make you stop for a second. after i got over it i noticed that the staff was being very attentive. the food is rich and very filling, so come prepared to eat a lot. i highly recommend getting dessert also. i tried some of the apple strudel and the cheesecake
