Never again. Because the food is decent and it's the only Indian restaurant in Forest Hills, we keep overlooking the horrible service here. But after the last experience, we refuse to give them any more business. It was freezing inside the restaurant, yet when we complained, we were told that the heat was on. Even though we were sitting in jackets and also covered our shivering 3 yr old with a blanket, they did absolutely nothing to improve the situation. We were seated near the window as far away as possible from the kitchen, where it would have been at least slightly warmer. A move to a warmer spot or a complimentary cup of tea would have at least shown that they cared about making us comfortable.
Absolutely Delicious Chicken Tikka Masala. I've eaten in several Indian restaurants in Queens, including 2 of the highest recommended Indian restaurants in Jackson Heights. Baluchi's on Queens Blvd serves the tastiest Chicken Tikka Masala. My girlfriend always gets the Chicken Saag. We both love the samosas. They use quality ingredients. It looks like a lot of the negative reviews center on service complaints. We've been going there for two years. While we've never had any problems with service, I once noticed the host being unaccommodating during a busy summer night rush. Maybe they need a new host. The chef however MUST stay.
Yet another place on the way out.
We ate at this place many times before.
The places still looks the same, but I'm refering to decor, ambiance and servers.
Since the economy tanked, many restaurants look for ingenious ways to make ends meet, some of them succeed, sand some, like in this case, ruin a perfectly good restaurant and therefore jepardize their future.
The portions got so small that is ridiculous. The quality of the food is inferior as well. But in order to make matters even worse, they kept the prize unchanged and now they charge you extra for the rice that come with the food. Not only $6 for a very small bowl of rice, when I asked for a second one I was charged another $6, lol.
If the economy doesnt improve, I can see them charging by the spoon insted of the bowl.
The reason I will not go back?
They have lots of b**ls
Terrible Service. The food here is ok, good enough to satisfy a craving for Indian food, but nothing spectacular by any means. I have been to the restaurant a few times, and have had service there that was ok at best, but I usually call for delivery. Their service on the phone has gotten worse and worse over the past 3 years I have been ordering from them... they leave you on hold forever, don't get your address right, and take 1+hour to deliver sometimes. I once used their online delivery order system, only to wait an hour, and when I called to ask about it they said they never got the order. Once the guy on the phone said he didn't know where my address was and asked if I could just come pick it up. Seriously??? Overall, this place has extremely poor service and ok food at best. Stick to the other Indian places in the area.
Perfect Family spot. I found this restaurant by chance last year and it has become a favorite in my family. The service is friendly and the food is great, especially their chicken appetizers. I went there for my birthday after a few months of not eating there, and the staff remembered me. They gave us desert on the house for our entire table plus had the musician sing a special song. Service is a bit slow when you're used to just being on the go all the time, but i think people must understand that it is part of the experience and culture, the staff is just making sure you have enough time. As for the comment about the staff speaking about costomers in their language, you find that in every restaurant and if they are speaking a different language how are you so sure they are speaking about you? I have been there numberous times and i do understand their language, although i cannot speak it very well, the staff doesn't know this and i have never heard them speaking about other patrons. sooo......
Below average Indian Food. Food is mediocre and there's lazy service. The ambience is very good, but not up to par overall with the Indian restaurants in the Village or even other neighboring restaurants in Forest Hills. Also, it's very dirty outside and questionable odors from the alley.
Worst Indian restaurant ever. I have been to Baluchis a few times and their service gets worse and worse each time. The waiters do not pay attention to the customers. They are rude and unprofessional. Their food is ok but there are so many good Indian restaurants out there with great service and awesome food why should anyone waste their time here? Unless you go here by accident, dont even bother!!
Editorial Review. New York chain of Indian restaurants serving seafood, lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes, available for takeout and delivery.
Avoid at any cost.
The is the least accommodating Indian restaurant I have ever been to. I have given this restaurant 3 chances and they failed me all three times. First time I went with a date and they made us sit in a two seater while the entire hall was empty. The table was unstable and shaking as the food was being served. When I asked the manager and the waiters ( with accents hardly comprehendible) they told us that the other seats are for larger groups. The second time was with a group of colleagues from work. The experience was even more unpleasant. Although the seating was fine, the waiters didn?t bother to make notes and swapped orders. One of my colleagues who is vegetarian (eats Kosher though) was served lamb curry while he had ordered from the veggie menu. He came to know it was lamb only after tasting it
The third time even more horrible . I wanted a quick bite of Indian food and went to relieve my self in the restroom after placing the order only to find that the toilet wasn?t flushed!!! That completely stole my appetite. Since I went with another female companion this time , the waiters were looking at us and making comments in their languages
Friends, please save your evenings by avoiding this restaurant!!! There are other dining options in Forest Hills and neighboring area which are 10x better than this one
I swallowed a staple.. I would avoid any Baluchi's or its other sister chain restaurants in NYC at all costs. Not only is the food among the most substandard that you can find in NY, but I bit into a staple in the salmon curry! So gross. I called to complain and was hung up on twice. It's not worth endangering your health to eat here, especially given the much better options for Indian food in the area.
