“Food prices also seemed high given the very low-rent / dirty location”
“The food was ok, nothing special and some dishes were not even appetizing (we did not finish all appetizers, considering we were quite hungry after the long wait, that is a very bad sign).”
Citysearch Editorial Review. While some “Top Chef” finalists struggle to open their restaurants and handle the newfound fame, other cheftestants seem to be doing just fine. Even though executive chef Manuel Trevino got knocked out early in the fourth season, Australian restaurateur Danae Cappelletto tapped him to man the kitchen at her sleek and sexy bar/restaurant on Kenmare Street. The restaurant itself abounds in silvery whites, complemented by leather-covered booths and drapery that covers the ceiling. The Mediterranean–Italian menu changes seasonally: The pastas, such as black spaghetti alla chitarra (with jalapenos and crab) and papardelle (with rabbit ragu), are always house-made and the entrees are thoughtfully split between a selection of fish (monkfish, bass), fowl (duck, quail) and meat (pork, lamb).
Bad Food and Extremely Noisy. Bland food at best; poorly prepared. Worst executed pig's head terrine ever. Don't be fooled like I was; it's better to avoid Travertine. You can use your time better than waiting for 2 hrs in a dirty part of town to get a mediocre meal.
Dirty Location, BAD Service.
While I'm pretty patient with waiters, Travertine really tested my patience. Our waiter spent 15 minutes chatting with some girls across the way, completely ignoring our table, forgetting to drinks and even bringing the complete wrong dish for one of us. When we were lucky enough to have her attention, she was unfriendly and unhelpful. The food was mediocre, the desserts even worse and the presentation lacking.
Way overpriced given bad location, food and service.
True Foodies - AVOID. I ordered supposedly signature dishes, the fagottini and quail. The fagottini was overcooked and the quail was dry. Ugh. Avoid.
Bad Location, Ok'ish food. The location and ambience of the area is awful and scary; exactly as others have said. Interior isn't bad, but the food just isn't up to par. Bland flavors that were often too bad to eat. Might be a good place to grab a drink while you get an oil change for your car, but that's all.
Food might be good, but I'll never know.... Had a reservation on a Friday night and arrived on time and was seated 30 minutes late. Bad start so far... proceeded to go through the wine list and select a wine, appetizer, and main courses over the next 15 minutes.... only problem was no one seemed inclined to want to take our order or so much as provide us with water... I figured this probably wasn't a good way to start the night, so we left... mind you the restaurant was probably only 65% full, so it definitely wasn't a case of an overwhelmed staff. Food prices also seemed high given the very low-rent / dirty location ... good food? Maybe, but I'll never return to find out...
Take your money else where. I don't mind paying up for a meal as long as the food is decent and the service is good......I was visiting home in NY for about 12 days and this was the only chance I had to have a nice dinner in the City. Should have just picked a diner to eat at. You can not believe how disapointed I was. Food was average, price was high, service, terrible, a big minus. Location as bad as they get. Take your money else where!!!
Avoid like a plague. I have dined at many top restaurants during my travels in Europe and Asia, and Travertine is very far removed from the top. The manager is rude and had an attitude (doesn't realize only a chief server). My party was told to come back2 hours later at 10pm even though there were many empty tables (on a Wednesday night). Food was mediocre for an overpriced selection. Don't waste your time at this establishment. The owner of Travertine should consider replacing his senior staff if he's serious about his business.
It's Terrible. TERRIBLE service. Mediocre, poorly presented, over-priced food. AVOID.
OUTSTANDING FOOD!! OUTSTANDING RESTAURANT!!. Travertine is brand new and great...the atmosphere is chic, cozy and contemporary. The maitre-d', Joseph, was friendly and accomodating...the waitstaff was fast and thorough but the best thing about this place is the food...HOLY COW....the four of us split a cheese platter and two pastas to start which were heavenly...then, the swordfish was mouth watering and then we split three desserts....worth every calorie. The chef is named Memo...he came out and greeted us and told us about his special dishes...very friendly....I will eat at Travertine again and again and I have recommended it to several friends!!! Loved it!!!
