Affordable Fifth Avenue delights..
The Scene
If the madness and good-time mayhem of Midtown is what you seek, this hotel is for you. Right in the center of it all, the 30-floor tower is near everything: Times Square, the Empire State Building, the New York Public Library and Grand Central Station. Best of all, the rates are surprisingly cheap. Ask for a room with a view.
The Details
The 189 accommodations are equipped with the usual amenities, such as cable TV and in-room movies. You'll also enjoy a dual-line speakerphone with voice mail and a free daily newspaper. Guests can choose between queen, double and two double-bed sized rooms. Spacious desk areas are a great bonus for business travelers.

Disappointed in NY. I just stayed three nights at The Clarion 5th Avenue. The hotel is conveniently located. The web site portrays a different image than reality. For extra money per night for a queen room, I expected it to be more upscale. The room was small and shabby, the furniture and linens were dated. The carpet was threadbare and the trim paint chipped. When I complained to management that the room was not what I expected, I was told they were sorry and that they would be remodeling soon! The housekeeping staff was rude when I left the room and they thought they wouldn't have to clean it and the front sidewalk area needed cleaned. Last year, I stayed at the Sheraton New York Towers for the same money - no comparison between the two. The Sheraton is where I will stay in when I go back.

Convienet, Small, Livable. Clarion is a decent hotel. The rooms are small, but a family of four is capable of surviving. The first night we were there a water leak appeared on the floor of our room. The next day after bringing it to the staff's attention they provided us with a new, dry room. It has an excellent location that is within walking distance to many places.
