Great Neighborhood Place!.
Went here with my boyfriend on a Tuesday night and had an amazing time. The atmosphere is casual, not pretentious like so many wine bars. The bathroom door is even cool once you figure it out (you'll see).
We had gone in intending on sitting at a table but the bartender made us feel so at home while having a drink we stayed right there. She had a way of making us feel like the only ones there while at the same time making the whole bar feel like a bunch of old friends. She really made it feel like a neighborhood place. I think she works one other night (Tues?).
The food was good and very reasonably priced. My boyfriend thought the portions could have been bigger but without the hefty price tag you really didn't mind.
I would definitely recommend this place for a quick drink, dinner or even after-dinner get together. Enjoy!

GREAT HOST, GREAT PLACE TO BE ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!.
My boyfriend and I went here last Friday, and had a great experience. We came here without making reservations, and while we had to wait awhile the host was great. He made sure to find us a seat at the bar when one became available and once we were seated came over to check up on us regularly. He even offered us free dessert for our wait, which was especially nice since we expected to wait awhile for a seat on a Friday night!! The service was great, and the host really did his job to make us feel comfortable. We definitely plan on coming back here!!!

This Upper West Side restaurant sports an eclectic, Mediterranean-influenced menu and a colorful interior with hints of pink and yellow amidst vintage wood and exposed brick.

Jewel on the Upper West Side.
Bar Luna is beautiful, from the large bar space in the entry to the beautiful darkly lit QUIET dining area in the back. The food is amazing; the staff is very friendly and professional. The $20 prix fixe meal is a steal -- try the fried oyster appetizer, the short ribs with polenta, the tagliatelle with lamb ragu. And it includes desserts. Another benefit is the large wine selection with glasses starting at $8. Too few of these in the "wine bar" category. It's available for parties too.

worthwhile wine bar great bang for your buck! go!.
I reallly like this place. I think it's a perfect addition to the over college'y bars in the area. It's an "affordable wine bar" - how often do you see that? Seriously, they have an incredible zinfandel right now that's $8 for a glass, but $16 for a bottle! Never happens. There's four glasses in that bottle! I've had four of their red's by the glass and they're very very good. it's a great spot for people who love wine but don't need to spend a ridiculous amount on the wine at the other wine bars in the area- who like to DRINK wine, not go on and on about their properties (although, i do like to go on and on while drinking). The inside is very nice, but not stuffy, totally approachable, especially on a weeknight, and neither frat-ish, nor super high end. The food is delicious and affordable, and the kitchen has bar food til late. It's like a pub and wine bar at the same time. There's no reason not to try this place out. It's easy, the bread puddings great (so's the mushroom tarte, and the burger)... have the rhone, or the zin, or the granacha currently... and it will not break the bank. Great place for meeting friends who like wine, or for romantic dates who don't need to know you're not breaking the bank. Just go, have a glass, and enjoy yourself, there's a lot of bang (and room,) for your buck, I think.
