We have visited this establishment previoulsy when it was Yvonne's Soul Food in Pelham, NY, which was always very good. First let me say that this review is about the service that we received, not about the food. The food, smothered chicken and smothered turkey, collard greens, potato salad, mac and cheese and green beans, was excellent. Then again, the food is ALWAYS on point. Now the service is another thing altogether. We arrived around 4pm to an almost empty restaurant. There was no background music playing and the tv was on mute, so it was pretty much complete silence which is awkward for a restaurant. It took 15 minutes just for us to get menus, then another 15 minutes for a waiter to come and take our order, which when she did, she never even asked us if we wanted anything to drink. 10 minutes later, a totally different waiter came and asked if we wanted bread and something to drink. After eating, we decided that we wanted dessert and asked the original waiter to bring us a dessert menu. After waiting 15-20 minutes for the menu, we decided that enough was enough and simply asked for the check. At that time, the waiter then asked if we were sure about not wanting dessert and we advised her that the entire process had taken way too long-which she never apologized for. When the bill came, totaling $35.40, we promptly left $36 and left. The waiter never even came back to pick up the check. Based on the above, I would recommend you get the food to go. The service will be the death of this place, which is a shame because Mt. Vernon has absolutely no other classy establishment of any kind aside from this place. House of Soul DEFINITELY needs to step their game up-
