Tips for Spice Thai Restaurant

Delicious Thai. I absolutely love Spice. The music (very important to me) is never too loud that you can't hear the people next to you and it's club/lounge, creates the perfect vibe for a group hang or just dinner for two. I have my favorite dishes: shrimp fritters, mixed green salad (delicious peanut sauce), 6 O'clock Train Spicy Fried Rice (not for the faint of heart), and their Spice Thai Iced Tea is dessert-like -- a must have. And the prices? Ridiculously inexpensive. This is one of my favorite go-to dining spots in New York City.

Genius! They openned a location with FULL BAR. I have always been a Spice fan but I always missed the full bar... Wine and beer are't my thing. But this location got it all! They make the best Lychee Mojitos too!

Lunch specials appt and main for something like $8!!

Dinner is affordable too! If you've been to Spice you already know that they are known for fast service... the food comes in a snap... The portions are generous and now full bar??? What else could I ask for??? I love SPICE!

Say "NO" To Spice. Wow, what an INCREDIBLE disappointment. Four of us went for dinner around 6:45 tonight, and we were all looking forward to good food and drinks. We received neither, but DID receive some of the worst restaurant service we've experienced in many, many years. Out of the drinks ordered (one bottle of wine, one mixed drink and one Thai iced tea), three came AFTER the starters were served (see below), and the third, the iced tea, was delivered simultaneously with the entrees. Even though we had asked the waiter where our drinks were (and could, shockingly, see them sitting on the bar behind us), he failed to deliver them with any semblance of timing.

Our starters included four bowls of tom yum, one for each of us. Three were delivered, one was not. Incredibly, the fourth (mine), was eventually delivered together with my entree. I sent it back.

As for entrees, the Thai BBQ chicken was barely warm, the green curry was brown, the red curry was passable and the tilapia was small, uninspired and floating in some indistinguishable red sauce.

I finally sought manager intervention. The entire table expressed its concerns about dinner and the barely-there service. The manager's response: comp the mixed drink and iced tea, and one comp desert for the TABLE! Not surprisingly, the check reflected only the comped mixed drink. We sucked up the charge for the iced tea, left the restaurant, and informed several couples perusing the menu outside the restaurant to avoid it at all costs. The all did.

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. The restaurant was certainly not busy enough to warrant such poor service, and although we asked the manager to comp ONLY the wine, he refused to do so. Fool me once, etc., etc.
