Fun night out

I'm a new-comer to hoboken and recently had dinner and drinks at Oddfellows with a group of friends. We had a great dinner. The setting was casual, but the service was up to par with fancier places and the food was fantastic. We headed into the bar afterwards and ended up dancing until 1am! The DJ was awesome! I must add, as a former bartender, Oddfellows had some seriously great girls working back there, they were fast, friendly and looked like they were having fun too! We'll be back soon!

In Hoboken, it is one of those always great places. It is a place that excels in many things from after work happy hours, dinners with family and friends, or brunch on the weekends. If you are looking for a good time and good food, Oddfellow's never disappoints.

Let's talk about the food! There is something for everybody and it's all good. Don't miss the BBQ Shrimp or the Steak Bruschetta but I like the Drummies best of all. The Po'boys are all good especially the fried shrimp or the pulled pork. The hardest part about ordering is trying to narrow down what you want since I like everything on the menu.

Oddfellow's the bar is a great place to meet your friends anytime. It has 2 pool tables, a dart board, and Golden Tee game. Also Oddfellow's has something that many other bar/restaurants do not have, a Courtyard. It is a great place to sit, eat, and drink with your friends year round.

Oddfellow's is simply one of those places that you'll come in once and be hooked.

Terrible service with bad food

The worst restaurant service I have ever experienced and their food is not even that good! 1) The hostess did not tell us that there's a 20 minutes wait until she seated 2 tables (about 5-10 minutes). So we waited at the bar and had some drink. 2) After half hour, nothing happened, so we went to check with the hostess again to see if the table is ready and got the answer the wait time GREW to another 30 minutes That's one hour wait time that she should just be up front and tell us so we have the choice to go or wait when we got there. 3) after we are finally seated, the waitress came by and took our order. Then again, nothing happened for another 30 minutes! No water, no bread, nothing! We were starving after all that unexpected wait time. 4) finally we got the food we ordered, and then a guy came to us with some bread on a plate and literally dump it on one of our other dishes! 5) They use too much MSG in their food. NOT HEALTHY!!! I would like to live cancer free! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! IT'S A DEATH TRAP WITH TORTURE!

food and service was terrible

We had dinner at Odd Fellows Rest on Saturday night. The unfriendly host, the server who could not be bothered and the frozen tasting food, made this a horrible dining experience. We had a few bites of our entrees and could not stomach it. The tuna, which was cooked the right way (rare) was strangely tough. The mash potatoes were tasteless. The steak was also tough and drenched in bottled BBQ sauce. The baked beans were from a can. I would have let the server know if she had checked on us though that never happened.

We have had dinner at Odd Fellows Rest last year and it was a good. We decided to make a special trip to the restaurant again last night before a show at Maxwell's and regret doing so.

Where karaoke goes to die

What can I say. I work in Jersey City and I came here by myself to check the scene out. This is just a review of the karaoke, not the place itself which is actually a nice place with good drinks, but it is NOT worth your while to go out of your way if you really enjoy karaoke. I will come here on a night when there is no karaoke, or should I say... Evil-John-ioke.

The KJ, "Evil John" (that's what the book says), likes to sing. A lot. By a lot, I mean around every fourth song. I'm pretty sure his favorite band is The Dave Matthews Band or one of those kinds of bands. He also like to play A LOT of filler between each singer. By a lot of filler, I mean at least 1.5 to 2 full songs between singers. So the rotation is something like 4-5 singers per hour if you're lucky. On the night I was there (Weds), it was packed with singers and some were irritated with the wait. I know, I spoke with them because singers can spot other singers.

The sound itself is fairly good and it would have been nice if I had actually had the patience to wait to sing, but I didn't. I'll be back on a Tuesday or Thursday night, but never on a Wednesday.

I don't know which is worse.. Sing Sing in NYC or Oddfellow's in Hoboken.
