good beer. nice atmosphere.. I personally like this place more than I'm willing to admit, as the scene is definitely casual and the beer selection is unique on this side of the Hudson river. The proximity to downtown Hoboken and the train station makes this a great meeting point, and the sporadic bookings of live music can make this to be more than a place you just "pop in" and then "pop out" on. Don't know if i'd make Scotland Yard an "every night stop" when I'm out and about in Hoboken, but poking your head in every now and then or giving it a looksie when they post the "live music" sign is not a bad idea.
Looks English, sounds American: This veddy British pub features a shot of live blues..
The Scene
A bright red phone booth imported from London and fashioned into an entryway is the beacon marking this underground booze and blues joint. The decor, set against dark wood and complete with Wembley Stadium signs and English-brewed beer paraphernalia, is as British as the bar's namesake detective force. The live Southern-fried blues ensembles that set up in a corner of the bar Sunday through Thursday nights, however, make for an all-American twist.
The Draw
With no cover charge to drain your drinking budget or a stage to lift the performers, the in-your-face blues, jazz and soul here attracts a mature crowd that's ready to rock out. Scheduled bands and solo artists alternate with ongoing Saturday afternoon and Monday night open blues jams, which feature all-star combos of local greats. Many of these musicians have made their careers backing the likes of Otis Redding, Judas Priest and Bela Fleck. At the Yard, they can take the lead.
Want to meet men?. Scotland yard is set up like a standard European pub, except for one thing....the live music on Saturday night. The place is pumping blue's and jazz all night long. This is also a great place to meet people. It is mainly male clientèle so women will definitely be chatted up. I have a great time there every time I go. OH! They have apple cider beer, which is AMAZING and hard to find in jersey bars!
