The Scene – Silk shades hang from vaulted ceilings, spilling warm, flattering light over the already dashing diners. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the bamboo-filled outdoor gardens, the restaurant's most coveted see-and-be-seen seating in warmer months. Service is swift and efficient, but has a tendency to rush through courses. – – The Food – The menu is huge, listing traditional Japanese fare (tempura, dumplings), inventive sushi rolls and pieces, and robata (grilled meats and veggies), as well as full entrees. The best bet: Order as you go and share everything,…
Editor's Tips
- What to Drink:
- The sake list is quite good; ask the sake steward for advice. Wines by the glass are $9-$16. Several bottle choices are in the $40 range.
- Know Before You Go:
- Book one of the semi-private tatami rooms, which seat from four to six diners. For larger parties of 20 to 75, the mezzanine dining room is ideal.
Swanky Chelsea Hotel
by karanortman
Stayed at the Gansevoort a number of times as well as frequented the rooftop bar for various events. The scene is swanky and fun. Great drinks and summertime at the pool can't be beat. The rooms are a bit small, but then again it is new york. Location is fantastic, right across the street from Pastis and a block away from excellent nyc shopping (earnest sewn and others).

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!

Was great when it first opened, but the crowd has become really trashy. If you like to hang out with the Jersey Shore crowd, then you'll enjoy the atmostphere.
skip Exhale
by Annyuta
I decided to try Exhale when I got an email from Rue La La- I usually only go to Soho Sanctuary for my massages and facials. I would never pay full price- I had a pretty poor experience. The amenities are not great- steam room is dingy and doesn’t work well; water is served out of paper cups. The staff was a little unprofessional- they were all hanging around in the main area talking and laughing, and several kept running into the locker room. I walked into one on her cell phone right in front of the locker room entrance. This is a distraction when you’re trying to relax and have a peaceful time. Lastly, all the rooms are in a pretty noisy area-right next to the hair salon and the whirlpool area. Again, all of this detracts from what is supposed to be a peaceful experience. And the services were so-so- my facialist did not provide feedback as requested and the masseuse, while clearly good and well trained, was a little too rough in her manner for me.
Really, I would just go somewhere else. For the cost, there are plenty of other high quality experiences in the city.
- Cons: not worth the money.
