Horrible experience I had just now in Legends, the worst place ever and the owner is extremely rude, has no respect neither for her customers nor to her employee, careless to her supplies and even dares to threaten you with calling the police if you do not pay 100$ for the service, which is already cheap as she said (the original price was 120$ ). A week ago I stopped by at Donna's place to find out if they do curly perm, she said yes, I asked to show me the rods they use since I know exactly what I need and I am getting perm for 10 years already, so pretty familiar with the process and the expected result. Looked like she had the size of the rods I need. Today was the day to get my hair done. I came in, got my hair washed and ready to curl it and all of a sudden me and the hairdresser find out that almost all of the rods are too old and they just fall apart in your hands, we called her asking if there were any new ones, and her answer was "Use another size it will be just fine!", we started getting rods done hoping they there will be enough, no way! on half way it was impossible to proceed and there was no other solution than me going to the CVS (cold outside, my hair is wet and half way done with rods!!!!!). No luck in store so I went home to get my OWN rods. Came back and got all finished, it was horrible experience, I was there from 1 PM till 6 PM!!!!what usually takes max 3 hours, people were coming for their appointments and I had to undo rods by myself. The best part is that the owner lives 15 min away from the salon and she did not bother herself to go and get what needed or even call and talk to me. I was definitely not going to pay full price for this service, half of it seemed even too much after all I went through, plus having rods on your head is extremely painful especially for so long. It was the worst day in my life ever. When I got on the phone with the owner saying that I will pay only for hairdresser work, she started yelling at me and threatening with the Police. No sorry, nothing, just yelling and saying nonsense that another size of rods would be just fine. I payed 60$ for this "wonderful" service. Horrible, horrible and disgusting experience in Legends and the owner Donna Marie. She ruined my day, my treatment and deserves all bad comments.
I love this place. Naheed is AMAZING. not only is she great with hair and makeup her personality is amazing too. i guaranteed you will leave their looking fabulous. Def. ask for Naheed. Shes the best.
legends studio spa – You must see Malissa. I have blond hair and i get a #1 fade. I dont like to see the line. She blended my hair very well. I highly recommend her.
An excellent salon – I have been going to Legends for about a year. I would not consider going anywhere else. The staff are very friendly and professional. They treat each cleint as an individual. The owner really takes the time to get to know each cleint and will always remember your name and ask about you. It's a fun and friendly place to spend an afternoon while getting your hair done. Not to mention they have the most resonable prices I have ever seen. I've paid twice as much at other salons for half the service. They are great dedicated and hard working people! I would reccomend Legends to my friends.
No-No for ethnic hair – When making my appointment on the phone, I asked if there was anyone there experienced in working with ethnic hair. I wanted a shampoo and blow-out. I was told they could accommodate me. When I arrived, my tech, Kathy told me she thought I would have short hair (why would she think this?). No one asked the length of my hair on the phone (my hair is mid-back length and not coarse). She was not experienced in working with textured hair at all. She first attempted to roller set me, then realized I would not fit under the dryer. Then she decided to blowdry it, but first wanted to comb through my hair with a fine-tooth comb. I decided to comb it out myself with my personal comb. My hair, upon leaving, looked worse than when I arrived. Really poorly done. Kathy tried very hard, and was quite pleasant, she simply did not have experience with my hair type.
The place is small, and very casual. The owner also keeps her dog in the shop. I have been trying to find a salon closer to home, but Legends does not compare well to the Manhattan salons I frequent.
User review by leanyjoan – Legends Hair and Nail Studio is one of the best kept secrets in Jersey City. All of the stylists are very knowledgeable with haircuts and up-to-date on the latest styles. The massage therapist is wonderful - I would highly recommend trying Legends.
