“incredible service, products and price”
Big City Style, Hometown Convenience.
This boutique has all the high-end "Big City" quality and selection, and offers you the luxury of staying local. The Conte's are a family operated buisness.
I feel that they really took the time to accomidate us and make our special day a lot less stressful than it could have been. It was practically "one stop shopping"!
We had used them for alterations in the past and found the tailoring to be truly superior craftmanship work. So when it came to our wedding, there was no question where we would begin. Fortunately for us, we needed to go no further.
HORRIBLE OWNERS!! RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!!!.
I dont even wanna give this place ONE star.
I am getting married in less than 4 weeks. I originally went to Conte Formalwear with my mom to look for her Mother of the Bride dress. They have a nice selection but the second you walk in, the owner seems a bit snotty. She ended up helping us and seemed really nice while we were deciding on buying the dress or not - Once we bought it, she was as nice as could be - Told my mom she could wear the size she tried on if she lost a few pounds but if she wanted the next size up, it wouldn't cost any extra so that was also an option.
We ended up going for the next size up. My mom realized after we left the store that she wrote $100 more than what was on the tag but she figured she'd just ask her about it when we went back in for her fitting bc we were buying the dress either way.
We went for her fitting and my mom nicely asked her about the price difference and she immediately denied ever saying that it wouldnt be an additional money, got really nasty and rude with us, basically calling my mom a liar and when we got upset - She said, "Why are you sitting here arguing with me??"
We ended up taking the dress and leaving the store because I could not believe that the OWNER of the store would speak like this to her customers and we will NEVER return. She was yelling at us (and yes, we were yelling back at this point) and telling us we would regret it and she didnt need our business. My dad even said to the "manager" aka the owner's son - It's not even about the $100 - It's about the way the situation was handled.
I am just beyond shocked that a business owner would treat paying customers this way.
Do yourself a favor - Go somewhere that the people will respect you and APPRECIATE your business!!!
upscale and classy.
in april 09 my mom and i went to tonyconte formalwear in hawthorne nj and was blown away at the store its like a mix between rodeo dr meets madison ave .
I was lookin for a prom gown and the owner Angela helped me . She had the entire Jovani prom line there not in a catalouge like most stores . Found my dream dress had it fitted and accesorized on a saterday and it was ready the following week. They did awsome customizing at a fair price. While there my mom made an appointment to purchase a gown for my sisters wedding in sept 09 . she was gong to go to klienfelds in the city where my sister got her gown but liked contes selection more because they also have the most extensive collection of jewlery and handbags i have ever seen . My mom ordered a couture designer dress that should be arriving soon
Not too happy!.
I purchased a dress for my daughters prom here. When we first entered the store was empty and received great service. After the initial purchase the sales woman worked with my daughter alone, fittings, etc. When my daughter arrived she was told there was a charge for alterations done to her gown. No, this is not unusual, what is unusual is that she was told during pick up what the fee was! She left a young woman feeling embarrassed because she was never told please come in with $$ when you arrive for your final fitting. If everything goes well you will be able to take it with you. So, to be fair to Tony Conte I called and explained what happened to avoid this for other girls 18 in age handling their own affairs. The woman brushed me off and said well she has her dress right! Point, if my daughter didn't walk off with my credit card the day before and kept it in her wallet..ps no dress! This sales woman was a little arrogant. I am sure there are other places when you are spending $600.00 on a dress that will explain all of the fine details and let you know your costs without embarrassment!
Look around before committing to this store.

UNSATISFIES & APPAULED
Edit Review? By eric m.
I am getting married in July 09 and my mother visited Contes in Hawthorne along with my fiance to look for a dress for herself. Upon returning a 2nd time with me, for which we had an appointment, the woman, whom I believe is one of the owners was working with another customer at the time we arrived. She never greeted us and continued to work with the other customer for 45 minutes past our appointment time still without greeting or apologizing for the wait. After nearly an hour she helped my mother. The service was extremely unprofessional and at times quite rude. Unfortunately, my mother liked Contes collection and wanted to return with her sister, myself and my fiance for some more opinions. She had called the day before which was a Friday and explained who she was and that she would be in the following day to try on and make an attempt at a final decision. When we arrived my mother knew already what she was looking for. The sole purpose of the visit was to simply show her sister the dresses she was leaning towards. This did not require any assistance from the woman who worked there. We walked upstairs to find the owner working with another woman, which was fine. Except when my mother had taken a dress of the stand and placed it by the fitting room in order to try it on, the owner began waving her finger and saying "No, No, No...you dont have an appointment, give me that". when my mother explained that she had spoken with her the day before and said she would be in, the woman responded with, "youve been here twice already, you have to buy today...youve been here too much...this is ridiculous. If you are not buying today, i cant help you". After that we decided to leave. This woman brought my mother to tears at a time when the family should be exciting and enjoying their planning process. I am not telling you not to go here, but if you wish to enjoy your dress shopping experience and wish to shop in a non stressful environment without pushy rude salespeople then Contes is not for you. Lots of Luck shopping. I will however recommend the Wedding Store which is out Rt 80. Also Tina in Totowa. Tinas is very deceiving from the outside but they have quite a collection.
