We renovated our house and I knew that we would a lighting store with great selection and customer service to partner with us, and I only placed one call and that was to Capitol. I told our salesman, Hubert (East Hanover store) upfront what we were doing and the need to find solid, but reasonably priced fixtures. He bent over backwards to make sure we had the items when we needed them and when there was an issue with an item there was no hesitation to order a replacement or take it back. Everyone that I dealt with there had great knowledge of the product and we've been very happy the our houseful of new lighting.
We recently renovated our entire home and bought all of our lights, interior and exterior, from Capitol Lighting. Everyone we worked with super nice and helpful! We couldn't be happier with the lights we purchased and will definitely use Capitol Lighting again in the future!
I went shopping last week at capitol Lighting. Everyone was so helpful. I probably annoyed the one guy asking a million question, but he was very nice and answered all of them. I ended up buying two lamps, and will going back very soon when I start remodeling my house. If going anywhere for lights, I recommend them!!! -Rena
No wonder people buy online more and more these days. My husband and I went to this store this past weekend with the intention of buying a ceiling fan. We spent some time looking at fans by ourselves. It was obvious we were there to buy a fan. Not a salesperson approached us even though many saw us. Nobody acknowledged our presence. We ending up doing what we didn't want to do: write down the reference number of the fan we liked to buy it online once we got home. Very disappointing.
great service – have made many purchases and have always come back whenever I need new lighting, their customer service is reliable and they always make things right when things do go wrong.
Exceptional Dispaly – They had everything you could dream of on display. I was helped by Irene who was terrific. She was technical but understandable. The house looks great.
I would have given it five stars, but one fixture took a week to come in. I could not have got it from anywhere else faster, but i had hoped it would have come in sooner. I actually should have started shopping earlier! Great store and I highly recommend it.
So Much Stuff - Great Staff – My wife and I went in to the Capitol Lighting in Paramus which isn't actually the closest to us, but we were in the area. We were blown away by how much lighting was there and, even though we hadn't planned to replace our decades old dining room chandelier, we simply couldn't resist when seeing all the styles and choices. A wonderful salesperson took the time on a busy Saturday to ask about our dining room colors, table size and ceiling height so that we wouldn't pick something that wouldn't match. We narrowed our choices down to two but couldn't make up our mind that day. The salesperson actually created a quote for us and told us that we could either call her to place the order or order it straight online and she would still make sure we got the same service as if we bought one right there. That night, we we did logon to the Capitol website and see both of the items. We made a decision and ended up ordering it online. The fixtures actually were shipped to us for free. And the salesperson even called us after we placed the order the next morning to follow up and then even after it was delivered to make sure we liked it.
The experience was really fantastic and I'd recommend anyone to use them for lighting.
Great Service – This place has a great seletion and the people were extremely helpful. I was looking for something specific and even though the salesmen explained it was discontinued, he checked in the warehouse to see if he had any left. After about 5 minuets, he returned with the last one they had left! I bought it and it looks GREAT. I would recommend anyone to shop here.
Takes your money, & then doesn't make sure order's delivered – I placed an order in June for 2 chandeliers for my great room. Irene from Capitol Lighting convinced me that although only one was in stock, the factory would be making 5 more, and if I placed the order immediately, she could make certain that I would get the 2nd fixture approximately at the end of August. I called mid-September because I hadn't heard anything and was told the light was discontinued. Irene remembered her commitment and said the factory would be willing to take the first one back and offered two similar but much too modern-looking chandeliers for my taste. I learned later that Capitol Lighting had received a fax in early August that they wouldn't be making my chandelier. Had they called me, I would not have installed the "matching" chandelier. Anyway, Irene said she was looking for another retailer who still had the matching chandelier.
Bottom-line, I placed dozens of calls to Capitol Lighting for two months and got 1 return call. Most days, I got sent to voicemail to which I begged to be called back even if she didn't have any news. The few times Irene did pick up the phone, she went transparent and acted like she was the victim at the hands of the manufacturer, because they wouldn't call her back. She was all schmooze and no action. Eventually, I sent an email, demanding my money back and asked them to discount the first chandelier since I would have to buy new lampshades to make the first chandelier look like it matched the second one I eventually found at Restoration Hardware. Took a few more calls, but I finally got my money for the 2nd fixture back but was told they weren't going to do a thing about my inconvenience. Irene said I could speak to her manager, but then I was put on hold for an hour and gave up.
Don't buy from Capitol Lighting--there are many others that offer the same or better prices but really care about customer satisfaction.
What Customer Service? – On August 24th my husband and I walked into Capitol Lighting in search of serval items for our new home. I read the reviews about the lousy customer service but didn't want to believe it - so off we went. From the moment we walked into the store until the moment we left (which was about 45 minutes to an hour) not one salesperson approached us - they would looked at us, but never once asked if we needed assistance. Funny everyone that walked into the store were greeted but no my husband or I - could it be that I am hispanic and my husband black? Don't want an answer to that question, I'll just make sure that I will never go back and I will spread the word.
