Oh Harlem How You Have Changed. First off,I had never heard of this place, but not unusual.A friend was doing a gig here, invited me to come. Walked in knowing there would be $10 cover.Miss Snooty (the owner) wants to know if we have reservations. We had none as we came for the gig. After a short wait we were shown a table. Miss Thing informs my party of 3 that the cover is $10.pp and to sit at the table is another $10pp.We are up to $60. now just to walk in. Then she informs us drinks are extra. All the while her attitude is like tolerant for some low-life creatures who clearly are beneath her.The restaurant is small and the bar seats approx six.Tiny space, tiny minded owner. The money was not an issue it was simply the fact that for $60.00 we still had nothing but attitude. How dare you come into Harlem and act like you are doing us a favor by being here. I would not recommend this restaurant. We went to Lennox Lounge and had a Wonderful time!
CRUMMY FOOD, TERRIBLE SERVICE. AVOID.
I've been here 3 times (my sister lives in the 'hood), so I can speak from experience. All 3 times, I have had a bad experience.
The owner is rude and arrogant. How a restaurant owner can be so unfriendly is beyond me. Service sucks (wrong food and cold without an apology is NOT ok - this is where one of my experiences with the rude owner comes in...she acted like if was my sister's fault that the waiter brought the wrong food...REALLY???)
And as for price, this restaurant is OVERPRICED for the average quality and quantity of food. And $12 for a martini in Harlem?
I have given this restaurant a fair shake and will NOT return. I advise you to avoid this place.
Nice place, good food, BUT BEWARE OF THE BILL!. Went here with a friend for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. The ambiance and music was really nice, and so was the food (the mac n cheese is great!). BUT when the bill came, we noticed that the manager had added an extra $1 to both our entrees (a dollar more than what the price was on the menu). When we pointed this out to the manager, she took it back, made the change, but didn't even apologize. And yes, we too got an 18% gratuity added to our bill! For just 2 people! We thought that was ridiculous. And I don't even think that's legal! I would recommend Billie's for the food and ambiance, but make sure you double-check that whatever you're charged in the end is what you're supposed to be paying. The only "con" is the "dishonest business woman" vibe I got from the manager.
Be careful of the bill. The food is good, and the services is ok. But be careful, we 4 people have lunch there, and they added 18% tips in the bill. I didn't check as it is unusual to add tips for 4 persons and end up paying 33% tips!!! Also the lunch is supposed to be 35% off the regular price as advertised on the web, but the menu didn't say that and they didn't tell us until I ask to confirm.
CHIC PLACE. ME AND MY FIANCE VISITED BILLYS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND WE LOVED IT. SERVICE WAS GOOD, PRICES WERE GOOD AND FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. OUR SERVER RECOMMENDED THE BILLY BLACK RASPBERRY MARTINI WHICH WAS VERY GOOD. THIS IS A GREAT COUPLES SPOT. SMALL AND INTIMATE.
not so happy hour. This place is the worst!! I am a new Harlem resident , we found billies black and made it our own. We attended happy hour on Tuesday for four weeks in a row ordering drinks from the happy hour menu as directed by the owner adrienne. On the 5th week we ordered from the same happy hour menu as we did before. When the bill came we were floored to see we were charged full price !!!! When we told the bartender we were charged full price for happy hour drinks she told us that the drinks we ordered weren't happy hour drinks. This we strange ! Before we ordered we asked about the drink specials and was told these were the happy hour drinks. No resolution was offered. The next day I went to speak to the owner... She did not offer to refund part of our money she didn't say I'm sorry for the bad service....NOTHING!!! She acted like it was ok to give out wrong info and it was not her problem.since then we have NOT been back. The owner lost more money by not giving me back 25 dollars for her and her staff's mistake. She lost hundreds by me and mine not going to her resturant. Food service is slow... Real slow and not worth the wait !!!!"
Great Atmosphere and Ambiance. Went for their "so damn happy hour". Ordered a Pineapple Mojito...really good. I also enjoyed their catfish strips. The crab cakes need some improvement though. They have a lot of events all the time from live music to poetry to even game night. I definitely recommend it as a hang out spot and also for your date night.
okay food, drinks are too expensive, nice events and setting. All was well, they host open mics and other events. they have a black pasta dish which was good. I ordered shrimp it was okay, and my brother ordered stew chicken which was also okay. If i went back I would order the black pasta. Also if i went back I would NOT order any drinks. they have the nerve to charge 16 dollars for their specialty drinks, and theyre only in a 10 oz. martini glass.. their entrees are only 17 and 18 dollars, so what would make them think to charge 16 for a drink. that was crazy to me but overall it was a good restaurant.
Best Authentic Soul Food In Harlem..... Billie's Black is the perfect combination of gourmet soul food and an elegant, warm, upscale atmosphere. Just imagine awesome african-american art on an exposed brick wall as you enjoy sweet jazzy-soul music. Combine this ambiance with amazing drinks and blissfull tasting food artfully presented to you. Cap it all off with some of the most attractive people and you too will become a regular at this Harlem treasure. I highly recommend this to the grown and fabulous.
Editorial Review. Restaurant and lounge serves Southern favorites like catfish and BBQ ribs with collard greens or sweet potato on the side.
