Where's the food? – I went here for a birthday many years ago and thought about returning to this place again. For some reason I had thought the restaurant was bigger from what I remembered. Nonetheless, the decor was nice however it seemed to try to attact a different sort of crowd by having a large projection TV in the back. I had thought the bathroom was out of service when my friend and I found a fire extinguisher sitting on top of the hand dryer and a bottle of soap IN the urinal. I don't care if they cleaned it with bleach - that can't be sanitary.
The food was not bad and the portions were very skimpy for the price you pay. The 1/2 lobster in my pasta was overcooked. Citisearch should change it to two $$ instead of $.
Not worth it – Prices are not proportional to what they serve. I expect such pricing from a restaurant in midtown, but not in the Village. Their $14.50 salmon appetizer had all of eight, thin slices of Lox. For the same price I know sushi restaurants that will serve you 15 pieces of sashimi (with soup, salad and rice). My salmon dish was a small strip of fish on a smear (not even a serving) of mashed potato. You should not wind up spending $35 after tips per person and still be hungry.
The decor is warm and welcoming and the service was sufficient. Food was brought out in a timely manner.
Editorial Review by Marcella Veneziale – Traditional pasta and pizza marks this Italian restaurant, with surprises like pizza topped with sliced potatoes, creme fraiche, and caviar.
Good food – This place has one thing going for it - lobster ravioli. It's my favorite in the city. I enjoy eating at different restaurants and trying new things, but every time I go here, it's calamari for a starter and lobster ravioli for an entree. It used to be bigger (are they remodeling or just downsizing?), but the smaller digs gives it a more intimate ambiance. It's no Il Mullino, but you definitely won't be disappointed.
Reservation Cancelation – They canceled my reservation 30 min before we were supposed to get there which ruined the night. There are hundreds of better choices out there so do not come here.
Horrible Service on Mother's Day – I get to Serafina on Mother's Day with my family and we were seated right away. The waitress asked if we needed drinks and we said we needed another minute which turned into 15! Ordered apps, which came before the drinks! No silverware on our table until we flagged the busboy for some. Drinks showed up as we finished with the apps, no one came to clean the table and waitress never came back to take our entree order. She was more concerned with chatting it up with another table rather than doing her job. Ended up paying for the drinks and apps and left the restaurant and proceeded to downtown for entrees and desert which was a million times better. On the way out, my father spoke to manager, but they didn't even care and that was it. Don't waste your time here!
Great 2 Yr Anniversary at Serafina's! – I just celebrated my 2 year anniversary with my bf at Serafina's and it was terrific! It was dim and romantic, and the food was delicious. It was a little expensive, but well worth it. It was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had!
What Service?!!! DON"T PAY INCL GRAT – I was there Saturday night with 9 other people . We went 40minutes without seeing the waiter. it took him ANOTHER 20minutes to bring glasses but no wine. Finally after complaining to the hostess 3 times, someone other than our waiter brings out our wine. They start to bring food out, but they bring appetizers for those of us who ordered them at the same time they bring everyone elses entree. 15minutes pass still no entrees, so we cancel. 10minutes later they bring out the cancelled entrees! When we send them back the waiter comes and starts arguing loudly over why we cancelled. I ask for the manager, the hostess comes and does nothing but be rude. Finally, the manager comes. I tell her there will be no tip. She understands and leaves it off. DO NOT ACCEPT THE GRATUITY IF YOU GET BAD SERVICE!!!!!
Seafood Dish! – Took clients there this past Saturday.
We sat in the upper area of the restaurant where we could look out over most of the restaurant. It was an excellent people watching spot but still private. (although why is it so dark in there? More light please)
The friendly waiter greeted us immediately and we had drinks and heard the specials within 5 minutes. We had 3 bottles of wine (good thing it's easy to catch a cab out front).
The waiter reccomended some things including a special risoto with lobster etc.. that was incredible!
The service was terrific and our waiter even reccomended a play at the Public Theatre up the street (Richard III) and we took him up on it and thought it was wonderful... Gave him a 25% tip which is high for me but he earned it .Try the seafood!
Wednesday nights are over-rated – Most of the reviews I read online (citysearch and others) all said that Serafina was the spot to be on Wednesday nights... I'm left wondering why?!?! If drinks are going to cost me $9, I think I deserve some more "atmospher." The music kept me awake though -- thumbs up to the DJ.
They had a white party when I was there (8/19/04) and only 1/5 of the people were wearing white. The bartender was a bit frazzled trying to deal with all the patrons by himself and therefore, rude... excusable though.
I didn't try any of their food, which I hear is very yummy but I don't think I am missing much.
The crowd was diverse, which I always think is a plus. There was a softball team there post-game, suits, clubbers and even a 6'5" dragqueen -- which always makes a party more fun.
