Greatest burrito EVER!!!!!. I stubled into this hole in the wall in the East Village around 1pm looking for an appetizing lunch and i have found gold!! The 20 minute wait is well worth it for the biggest and tastiest chorizo burrito i have ever out in my mouth. No frills restaurant serving good food and plenty of it. THE CITIES BEST KEPT SECRET!!!!
authentic mexican (but be prepared to wait). downtown bakery is the most authentic taqueria style mexican food i have been able to find downtown. the reason it is called downtown bakery is because they bake bread in the mornings, things like rolls and guava pastries. but the real draw is the burritos. they are made to order, and take about 10 minutes to wait for if you just walk in and order. and if you order pico de gallo, it is not waiting in a big plastic vat premade -- that is made to order as well. so you have to have some patience with this place, it doesn't cater to service nazis who need something quick, and i definitely wouldn't recommend taking a chance with delivery -- it is very inconsistent. all that aside, the food is great. they serve the shrimp burritos "wet" with sour cream and guacamole on top and filled to the brim with hot sauce, nicely spiced shrimp and tasty yellow rice. the breakfast burritos are even better -- the burrito de papas has nicely spiced potatoes, and the chilaquiles is delicious and fun to eat -- tortilla chips, eggs, beans, guajillo sauce -- mmmm. definitely worth stopping by if you're in the neighborhood or just want some really good mexican food that will not disappoint.
INSULTING services makes place SHIITE. Ordered delivery for pork burrito, steak tacos, side of rice and beans, guacamole side and sour cream. 20 minutes delivery time. Called back after 45 minutes to chase delivery. "Leaving in next 5 minutes." Waited another 25 minutes before calling back again. "Food is leaving now." Waited another 10 and food arrived. Guacamole was missing.Sour cream was missing. Pork burrito was steak and the tacos steak meat tasted like second hand meat. Rice and beans was squirrel food. Delivery guy, who my girlfriend believes was the manager she spoke to over the phone, didnt offer any form of compensation, became very angry when questioned and insulted her by saying he never wanted to see her business or her again. 80 minute wait for dog sh*t and insulting staff makes this place ABSOLUTELY SHIITE
Editorial Review. Hole in the wall serving and delivering West Coast-style Mexican, including carne asada burritos, tortas cubanas, chicken tamales and more.
Too Hot To Eat. Ordered three entrees for delivery. All three were so blindingly habanero hot we couldn't eat what we'd paid for. I love spicy, flavorful food, but this was so intense I couldn't taste anything - my mouth was on fire and my lips and tongue were numb. Maybe you can rise to the challenge, but I would rather enjoy what I eat.
