We definitely recommend it.. In our failed attempt to go to the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival on April 3rd, we opted for a better option than waiting in a mile-long line in the cold. We decided to have a good hearty meal at Angelica Kitchen. We always let our stomachs lead the way and hardly ever go wrong.

Angelica Kitchen is an unpretentious and low-key spot, with a nice ambiance for casual dining. We were in a large group, there were nine of us, and we could carry on a decent conversation and hear what everyone was saying. That was actually unexpected, especially because they had a full house for lunch.

Their Full Menu and Daily Specials (pdfs) were pretty extensive and made it hard to choose, a nice problem to have. Many of their dishes are made with whole grains and mild spices that remind me a lot of Alcaparra, a macrobiotic restaurant in São Paulo, Brazil I frequently dined at when I first became a vegetarian. Dishes are more earthy and less flamboyant than most other popular vegan restaurants and there are plenty of gluten-free options.

Everything we had was delicious with the exception of one dish or other that weren’t as good as the rest, but that doesn’t mean they were bad. The highlights of our meal were the two specials we ordered —Sgt. Tempeh’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Still Special— and the Olé Man Seitan, which hit the spot and satisfied my craving since our visit to Quintessence. All dishes we nicely seasoned and hearty portions, perfect for the hungry travelers at our table. The Dashi & Noodles were ok, the broth was nice and flavorful but the noodles didn’t absorb any of it so they tasted a little flat.

As for the desserts, the kanten was light and fresh. The tiramisu was nice and rich, as one should be. And the cheesecake was tasty too, but was more a tofu pudding pie and didn’t have that cheesecake density and texture I was hoping for.

All in all, we had a great meal and good time. We definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a whole foods dining experience.

Always Good. Every time I go here I like to try something new, especially the specials. The specials are always good and something different. It's not the nicest place but the staff makes up for it with their friendly attitudes. If your in the area and like to eat healthy than stopping at this place shouldn't be a difficult decision.

Favorite Restaurant in NYC. The interior is not especially fancy, but the food is always good. The specials are tasty, and I like to get the steamed veggies of the day with the brown rice gravy. Love the apple cider, and the hot chai is good, too.

The waiters are always friendly and interested in having a conversation.

If you like clean food, this is the place to go.

Bad service with even worse food. I tried giving this place a few chances, leaving more disappointed than the last time. The food is plainly bad, extremely bad at times where on one embarassing occasion I had to excuse myself for gagging.

The service is aweful. None of the waiters seem to care about your time nor enjoyment. Nor obviously their tip.

NOT FOR KIDS or families trying to raise veg. children!!!. I wish that things were different, but you are allwed to BYOB, but not outside snacks/food for a toddler. There is no children's menu (and service is slow). Then they will make you remove the food so that the toddler screams and then you leave- shame on Angelica Kitchen- any parents out there UNDERSTAND if a hungry toddler is behaving and quiet, don't PULL the snacks away (maybe next time we would know, but not an appropriate thing to expect of a parent at the time)- obviously the man with the beard is a nice gentleman, but clueless to life and does not have children...sometimes one must pull themselves out of the clouds and deal with REALITY--many yuppy clients may not know, but true good understanding people who love children do...afterall, be nice to children, they are the future generation- we will go to the many other NICE veg. places in the city--MANY exsist that appreciate the next generation of vegetarians.

Atrocious Service. I've been wanting to try Angelica's for quite some time and finally went this Saturday night. Although the food was pretty good (though nothing we couldn't have cooked ourselves at home just as well), the service was atrocious. First, our waiter did not introduce himself and probably said a total of 5 words to us all night. He literally just stood at the table looking at us when it came time to order. Although we were all vegetarians, it would have been helpful for the waiter to ask if anyone had any questions about the menus since not everyone is familiar with typical vegetarian foods, like seitan, etc. Our appetizers came out incredibly quick, which was not necessarily a bad thing. However, before we had even gotten halfway through the appetizers our entrees were literally shoved onto the table and once again, the waiter said absolutely nothing to us. Also, they rushed to clear our table after we had finished our entrees, but for some unknown reason left a hummus appetizer plate on the table throughout our dessert. Plus, the restaurant was still more than halfway full when we left so there was just no excuse for rushing us the way they did. I do have to say that the hostess was very sweet though.

I fully support any restaurant that seeks to provide healthy, organic and sustainable food, but given the variety of options available in the City I would likely not go back to Angelica's again.

eh. went to angelica kitchen tonight, mediocre place. we put our name on the list and went to grab a bottle of wine. ten minutes later, we came back but the aloof hostess didn't even remember us. anyway, the waitress was below avg. she was nice enough but we only saw her twice - i thought she left the city for the long weekend. it does have a nice atmosphere and was packed. the quarters are tight, esp. if you're a duo, but i like that. food was frankly pretty bad. the hummus appetizer is hard to mess up, but they only gave enough stale pita chips to eat 1/3 of the hummus. my dashi noodles were extremely bland, and the only thing they had to help it out was some cayenne pepper. the upside, byo and it was pretty cheap. given the plethora of byos in the east village, you're not missing out if you skip this place, unless you can't eat anything but bland organic, vegetarian food.

The food is not real, nor is healthy.. I never knew that Angelica's Kitchen cooked their vegetables, they loose their valuable nutrients inside if this happens!!?? And to think where all my hard earned money is going to!!

Outstanding service, odd food. Although the service was outstanding, and every single salad dressing I've ever had here have been good enough to have me running back for more, some of the dishes were off-putting. But, as I mentioned, the service is outstanding, so if you do order something that you absolutely hated, they're pretty nice about taking it off your bill. Granted, it means that it's best to ask questions of the servers before you order something.

For example, I ordered the cashew hummus, expecting it to be a creamy sort of mound with some vegetables. Even after seeing in the description that there were raw (soaked, of course) chickpeas in there, I figured that they had some way of grinding it all down enough that it'd come pretty close to cooked hummus. I took less than one bite, and couldn't continue. I asked the waiter for another selection, and told him that I couldn't really eat the rest of it. He cleared the plate away, and came back to tell me that they'd be taking it off the bill.

Definitely try one of the vegetable juices. They really pack a lot of flavour, and are worth trying out, especially if you haven't had freshly made juice before. Also, give the specials a whirl if you're going with two people. The special is listed on the menu itself, complete with description. Meanwhile, because the portion of the special is so large, it's the perfect size to share with someone.

Veggie haven. Everytime I go to this restaurant I am inspired and reminded why it's great to be a vegetarian. They really keep it interesting, decor is nice, service is generally good... A winner all around, even for meat eaters.
