Stay Away!

I went to the DDS Group for several years and recently switched to a different practice after an unpleasant and sketchy experience.

I’ve only had teeth cleanings at DDS and was, for the most part, pleased until recently. Victoria performed most of my teeth cleanings, and I found her to be friendly, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. She seemed to use a lot of elbow grease as my mouth would often hurt afterwards, but the results were good. My dentist was Dr. Stanescu. He was friendly, but spent, at most, 30 seconds examining my mouth, and as such, I was unsure of the quality of care I received.

I recently went for a teeth cleaning in late July with Isabelle and found the office to be chaotic. I arrived 15 minutes late due to a late train and upon arrival was told that I might have to come back in 2 hours. I was offended that I was even asked to do that as if I didn’t have anything to do with my day, but I waited patiently until a verdict was given. During my wait, a number of receptionists and dental hygienists were frantically calling patients, as others were late. After about 10-15 minutes of waiting without an explanation as to what was going on, I was told that I could be seen.

Isabelle was nice and seemed to do a good job, but my impression of the practice changed as she wanted to schedule me for another cleaning in 3.5 months. Teeth cleanings are usually done every 6 months and the reason for bringing me in 3.5 months in mid-November was only so the practice could bill my dental insurance another time this year for a teeth cleaning. It is clear that profiting off of patients was a priority as having a dental cleaning in 3.5 months is not at all necessary.

Dr. Schreiber saw me for this visit and told me that I needed orthodontia, 5 fillings replaced, and a consultation with a periodontist. I was horrified as I had never been told that I needed to have orthodontia or see a periodontist, and keep in mind that I had seen Dr. Stanescu of this practice for over 3 years. Additionally, I’m only in my late twenties, so having any fillings replace seemed unusual, let alone five, as well as seeing a periodontist. Dr. Schreiber acted as if all of these things were necessary and had to be done immediately. I was quickly whisked away to the front desk to make several appointments. Because of all of these recommendations, I was naturally skeptical and sought a second and third opinion. Additionally, I became even more leery when I learned that Dr. Schreiber is the owner of the practice.

The second and third dentists (at different practices) said that orthodontia in my case was not absolutely crucial but was recommended as my teeth were meeting in the front and some slight chipping was occurring. However, both said that my fillings were fine and didn’t need to be replaced. Also, I was told that I didn’t need to see a periodontist as my gum recession was extremely mild.

After my recent experience, I would be hesitant to visit the DDS Group as it is quite clear that earning a profit is more important than recommending necessary and appropriate preventive care and procedures for patients.

Great Dental Hygienist!

A dental checkup and cleaning for me was way overdue and I am happy to have gone to the DDS Group to get me on my way to great dental health.

The dental hygienist I saw there twice now, Bari Kaplan, is very personable and professional! It's been a good while since I've been to a dental office and she made my return an easy one. After too much tea/coffee and not enough flossing, I just plainly wasn't that happy with my smile. But Bari has definitely changed that. Thank you!

Best Dental Provider

In the past twenty years I have used some of the top rated dentists in the Tri-State, and must say that DDS is best provider on all accounts. They have been both professional and sensitive to the needs of me and my family members. Work performed ranged from simple cleanings to complex bridge work. In every instance Dr. Handler and her team always managed make the patient feel comfortable, while using the latest dental technology and techniques to reach the slated objectives. A great team of players, which comes highly recommended

Dr. Stanescu is the Best

As someone who has had an unfortunate number of root canals, I can say with some authority that Dr. Stanescu is the best dentist I have ever seen. He is personable and concerned with the patient's physical comfort. He is cautious, and careful not to perform any unnecessary procedures.

Before my last root canal, I had a toothache that had persisted for several months, and had been to several dentists without obtaining a proper diagnosis. One of these dentists actually recommended a root canal on the wrong tooth! Fortunately, Dr. Stanescu took the time and had the skill to perform an accurate diagnosis, and performed a root canal on the correct tooth. Dr. Stanescu is also the only dentist I have visited who performs the root canal and crown installation in a single visit. All in all, highly recommended.

Excellent Service

For over 15 years I have been visiting the DDS Group and with each passing year their services get better and better. If you want a great dentist with experience and expertise than DDS is the place. Not only are the dentist great but the overall staff too ( Including Hope the finance representative and Josephine the Hygienist ). Josephine is professional and very thorough and once you seat in her chair she puts you at ease. I highly recommend them.
