Bergdorf-quality furs at bargain basement prices.. The Scene
Matthew Kirshner, the proprietor of this no-frills fur shop (and "son" of its title). Kirshner entered the fur business more than 60 years ago, selling mink scraps to milliners. Today, he presides over his slightly grungy showroom, doling out weird fur facts and offering excellent fashion advice. Don't know what size you are? He does. Don't know what color fur suits your complexion? He does.

The Goods
A wide variety of classic mink and sable coats (all made on the premises), as well as Italian-tailored fur-lined raincoats (the same models that are sold at Bergdorf's for twice the price). The cold storage room is home to a small selection of used coats, all in good condition and all quite reasonably priced. And Kirshner will make coats to order, for no extra charge. Just choose a style and a color, and a month later (two months during deep winter), you've got a coat.
