Quality Couture Fabric House of NYC. I was looking for fabric to construct a coat and dress. I found a Mendel's beautiful selection of wool crepe, wool boucle, and silk charmeuse fabrics. Alice help me coordinate a beautiful French boucle and silk charmeuse fabrics to match the wool crepe I had selected. Mendel Goldberg's fabric selections can not be matched by any other fabric house in New York City. Their fabrics are the couture quality only found at the tissus shops in France and Italy. . When garments are sewn from fabrics purchased from Mendel's they become a timeless wardrobe that will last for many years to come. Their service is excellent and above board. Pros: I would recommend to anyone seeking quality couture fabric to shop at Mendel's, do not look elesewhere in NYC you will not find the quality selection that Mendel's provides. Their staff are polite, respectful and knowledgeable of all the fabric they sell.

Horrible exerience and disgusting customer service.. I went in the other day and was shocked by how poor the customer service was in this place...not only is it old but doesn't seem to have booming business and/or a glorious selection and to be beyond rude and racist in 2011 is shocking. Especially when your instincts are off and you would have made a very large sale.

Whoever the female representative was that was working on weds. 3/30 should not only be ashamed of herself...but fired. IF she is the owner...yikes. I have read other reviews on yelp and it seems that the woman I dealt with just may be an owner AND is known to be rude. I am usually a person who loves to work with local businesses but I can't imagine with customer service like that they will be able to survive much longer. So sad for a business that touts having been around since the 1800s. This place seems to be known for its high priced fabric but it was gross crowded and didn't seem to on top of the ugly attitude and horrid customer service.

QUALITY FABRICS AT MENDEL GOLDBERG FABRICS. I love the chantilly lace that Alice Goldberg Usdan showed to me . the very first piece she laid on the table was exquisite ,that I didn't bother to see for more choices ..As a matter of fact this ''TURQUOISE'' chantilly lace that I am wearing here on my profile photo got a lot of compliments on the facebook community ha ha ha..Hi Alice I hope you remember me , I was with Rey Santos , the Filipino designer who makes wedding gowns for the Jewish girls and their moms.....

This was the dress I wore at the NYC Annual Gay Pride Parade on 5th Avenue,Sunday June 27, 2010

great fabric selection. I was looking for fabric to make a Chanel jacket, and Mendel Goldberg has an excellent selection of wool boucle in summer and winter weights. There's also a nice, but quite pricey, selection of silk charmeuse lining fabric. The salesperson helped me find what I needed from a pile of remnants, and charged me a fraction of the price. He also gave me the name of a teacher that offers a Chanel jacket sewing class, and a copy of an article on Chanel sewing techniques from a back issue of "Threads" magazine. I would say that's very good service!

Sure made my mother happy!. My mother has been looking for a black and white houndstooth for quite some time so she can replace a vintage cape she loves. She found a nice deal at Goldberg's today -- enough for a cape and a skirt. Proprietress Alice, daughter of Mendel, was very generous with her time and gave Mother excellent service. It was no problem to have merchandise brought up from the basement for Mother to view.

I was impressed by the beauty, quality and variety of fabrics, which are mostly from Europe, according to Ms. Goldberg.
