Editorial Review for Bereket Turkish Kebab House – by Kat Kinsman

In Short
From hummus and doner to tabouleh and every other pita-stuffer under the Turkish sun, this Houston Street stalwart whips up Middle Eastern standards. The kebab window, which opens onto Orchard Street, does business in the wee hours with the neighborhood's bar crowd. The rest of the time, the small seating area crams with customers looking for an affordable falafel fix. Warning to the gentle-palated: When they say "hot" sauce, they mean it.

I'll start off by saying that this is a FAST FOOD STYLE Turkish restaurant. Keep that in mind when ordering because not everything on the menu is worth getting here.... I'll explain in a second. You go to Bereket to get a doner (gyro) pita bread sandwich!!! Their doner sandwiches are as delicious as their lentil soup (a must try!!). Yes, the kebabs (chicken and adana) are good but you are better off going to a real sit-down Turkish restaurant (ex: Ali Baba) for an entree. But if you are in a hurry and can't resist then go for it because their chicken kebab is yum yum yummy! Oh and give the kazan dibi dessert a try.... it is truly something else! Once again people keep in mind that this is a fast food style place and do not expect them to serve you food on a silver platter.

Pros: Open 24/7

Cons: It gets very crowded late night

Any Turkish Restaurant that serves kazan dibi for dessert has to be doing something right. I would go for the kazan dibi alone

Pros: kazan dibi

Cons: crowded at times

This Lower East Side Turkish standby is a late-night snack mecca.  See the full editorial review.
