Editorial Review for Kiehl's Since 1851 – by Sandra Ramani

The Scene
This family-run business has never advertised, stickong to simple packaging and believing in non-gimmicky, botanical-based products--which they've sold since the 1950's from this very location (for over a 100 years before that, the shop was two doors down). Expanded in 2003 to 6,000-plus square feet, the space now includes a cafe and more space--and product lines--to browse. Because of the friendly, ask-all-the-questions-you-want vibe, it's still often packed with tourists and locals, and weekend lines are legendary.

The Goods
From celebs and makeup artists to new mothers and concerned girlfriends, devotees swear by high-quality classics like Ultra Facial Moisturizer, Crème with Silk Groom, the Blue oily-skin line and Lip Balm No.1 (available clear or tinted.) Another plus is the store's try-before-you buy philosophy, which means that everything from Coriander and Rain shower gels to Rare Earth Face Masques are available in free take-home sizes. Baby, haircare and anti-aging products are recent top-notch additions.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I was a little sceptical at first, because they seemed quite trendy based on all the celebrity buzz for the products. However, that's not at all what they are - the products are an incredible value, they actually do what they say they will (what a concept), and you will quickly be turned into a lip balm addict if you ever try theirs! I can't think of a better place to spend my money :)

Pros: Great value

Kiehl's knows how to bring you the products you want and need. The labels on their goodies aren't fancy - they don't need to woo you into buying their products. They are just the best. You can get free samples if you ask and they have testers for their products, which helps make you feel about about how much you are spending on toiletries!
