Sreaming Mimi's. My friend and I went to NY for a long weenend & came across a great vintage store called "Screaming Mimi's on 382 Lafayette street. The staff welcomed us to the store & immediately explained the lay out of the the merchandise to assist us with our choices. The staff helped us with our shopping & brought us items that they thought we might like & advised with oour decisions. The staff made Daisy & I feel like they knew us forever & made us feel like we were in their home. What a GREAT experience. Loved the shoes being set up in front of the store which we brought a few pairs & then we went on to get handbags to go with, of course, the shoes. Brought a few designer outfits at great prices which we could never have found these vintage designer outfits in Michigan. Bottom line love the staff, store, & all the merchandise & most of all the great prices for the items we purchased. The staff helped us with our shopping & made our trip to NY a great experience & gave us tips on places to visit & restaurants to try. Screaming Mimi's is a must visit when in New York city.

Chic Vintage Indeed, (for a small price). I stubbled among this store on a rainy day during the summer. The street its in was wide and dark and I needed some refeege while the un-expected storm died.

Walking in, your met by friendly sales people on the right, readily helping you (but not too overbearing)

Looking around I loved the selection of clothes they had ( ALL vintage, excluding the jean line they started for their 50 year anniversary.)

The clothes were on the pricey side, but if you want nice vintage finds, this is the place. This store isn't as bad as what you would usually pay in something like Urban Outfitters (which many hail to)

I got this vintage high waisted 60s skirt with flowers on it for 60 bucks. I wouldn't of bought it, if I didn't just get my birthday money, but I don't regret it now. It's beautiful and adds so much to my wardrobe. Every time I wear it people compliment it.

All in all, I say this store is great for one or two spurge vintage item. Keep in mind more of their everyday wear is located in the front of the store.

Enjoy!

Bad and over-priced selection. I found this store with the notion that it was an inexpensive vintage store with a good selection, just as the tour guide book said. The sizes were too big, but it's not like any of the clothes were that great! Not only was the clothing itself ugly and VERY tacky, but the prices were through the roof. I only found one piece I liked: a purple corduroy jumper at an unfair $70. Now, if you think that sounds ugly, than do NOT waste your time here! My only praise for this store is that they have a nice selection of sunglasses. (My first review.)

It's Fabulouso!. I love this store! I went there to get a suit and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and attractive. The place is arranged so nicely that it was easy to find what I was looking for. And the girls helped me find a tie and shirt that looked great with my suit. I thought the staff was friendly and very thoughtful. It's just a fun place to shop and I'll certainly be back. It's awesome!

A high-style vintage fun house.. The Scene
It's not hard to believe that '80s fashion icon Cyndi Lauper worked here back in the day. Platform sandals and Chloe dresses share space with Members Only jackets and felt fedoras in a retro-fashionista's wonderland. Don't call it a thrift store, however: There will be no digging through boxes of ratty T-shirts and sodden housecoats. Everything is a find, and the refined displays are more Gimbel's than Goodwill.

The Goods
Even if vintage isn't your everyday look, be sure to stop by around Halloween when the staff--mainly fashion stylists--pulls out the stops with one of the most outrageous costume selections in the city. And no visit would be complete without a trip upstairs to the gift mezzanine, where kitsch rules the day. Bawdy greeting cards, '50s kitchen items and an alluring assortment of wigs beckon.

...But is it worth it?. The selection is minor, dwindling to a select era. The prices are quite high, a hat at it's lowest is $50. The shoe variety is quite nice, though, with lots of cute heels. But all in all, unless you're willing to max out your cards, I wouldn't recommend it.

great finds. I disagree with the posters here about the girls who worked at the store. On the contrary, they were most helpful. With their assistance, I bought a beautiful 1950s skirt and and a funky 70s dress. The girls were anything but annoying. Great place to find vintage stuff.

Screaming Mimi's made me want to scream!. I agree with the other reviews. The girls that worked here really kind of put a damper on my experience. And not to mention the ridiculous prices. Things like $35 for and old Wynona Judd T-shirt. Get Real. Visit the store if you like, but I don't think it is your best bet.

Back off.... This store has a pretty dope atmosphere, however, the girls that work there need to back off. They are pushy and shamelessly follow you throughout the store like hawks. The selection is pretty good but nothing to really go crazy about, not even the "vintage designer" section that one employee was sure to point out as she was watching my every move.
