Atmospheric Irish bar turns out quality tunes and pints.. Swift stands out in the East Village as an old-time pub. The church-pew booths, wall mural and antiqued tables and bars all pay homage to Irish literary great Jonathan Swift. Live music (on a sophisticated sound system) is an occasional feature, but there's no stage, so when musicians appear, they're part of the crowd--literally. Swift is swank, extremely friendly and pours an excellent pint of Guinness.Though crowds and love-vibes are in abundance on the weekends, Swift offers an otherwise relaxed night out on the town.
Great for a huge low-key crowd. Went to Swift for a bday party on Friday night. Solid music, drinks and prices. Great place to check out for a casual night out.
Quite simply the best. Great afterwork. Great singles scene. Great music. My bf tells me the best Guinness in NYC! Good, plain fun.
Best Dogs in the city!. Not only can you get a great pint of Guinness (one of if not the best in NYC) but their "Dollar Dogs" are amazing. Great bar food at rerasonable prices.
Great Starter. We used Swift as a jumping off point on a friday night, drinks weren't too expensive ($6 guinness - best i've had anywhere) and though it was kind of crowded, we didn't have a problem finding a place for our group to hang out. Music was bad, but that's the only downside.
Best Guiness In Town. There are very few places in the city that have a good guiness (on tap) and that can actually poor the proper guiness for you! Swift is one of those of places. The day brings regulars form the neighborhood enjoying there favorite pints. The night brings the ... well you know.. hahah the bartenders are masters at their craft... wait staff is a load of fun. If you truly want to have a great time you must make swift a stop on your night out!
Great tap, awful for a party.
I'd been to Swift a few times and really enjoyed its back room and their decent tap. I decided that I wanted to host my 22nd birthday party there and made reservations for 40. When I got there I was horrified to find only one table reserved, not half the room, and the rest of it was already crowded. It turned out that they'd over booked by 2 other parties in addition to mine and the one that I was told about. My guests arrived with no where to sit so only a few of them stayed for longer than an hour. Also, the DJ was awful and didn't take any of our requests.
If you want to have a party and know you're going to get taken care of, avoid this place. If you want to chill with a few friends and get a beer, by all means enjoy.
good place to get a good pint and bar food. pub atmosphere with big back room. several tables are good for eating and drinking. a great selection of beer and average price bar food. the fact that there is a dj there some nights is suprising but livens the place up.
SWIFT? Anything BUT. It's amazing how a bad waitress can ruin a great evening....the girl we had was horrible. When she wasn't on the phone, she might get you a drink...and then made you feel like she was doing you a favor! We had to walk up to the bar three or four times from our table to get served....AND then when we tipped below 20% she had the audicity to ask if we had a problem with the service. What a joke. My friends will not be going back for a while.......
Silly boys. My friend and I went here on a Friday with the goal of getting hit on by Irish boys. We weren't disappointed on that front and got some others hitting on us to boot. Anyone worth going out with? Um, no. Some of the crowd was beligerant though since one guy yelled at me "Are you staring at me? What makes you think you're allowed to stare at me?!?!?!?!" Um, I seriously doubt that he'll have to worry about anyone dating him anytime soon. Luckily the staff here is really great - the bar back told us it was a weird night. The bartenders are exceptionally attractive and nice, and the bouncers told us they'd kick out that beligerant guy for us. So all in all, it was an adventure and I'd definitely go back. This is not like any other bar I've been to in that part of town!
