blech!. The woman who answered the phone to take my delivery order had a very, very strange attitude. I really don't think she was happy to hear from me!

Regardless, the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and well-packed, but the miso was small (and looked/tasted like rusty water was the soup base), the yellowtail scallion roll was so funny tasting that I just ate what yellowtail I could from inside the roll, the shrimp tempura roll was really bad, but the salmon avocado rolls were good. Nothing at all was great, so I can't figure out why this place has such a good rating. It wasn't toooo expensive, thank goodness, or I'd feel really ripped off.

Spicy Tuna Rolls at Happy Hour. I really love happy hour for the cheaper drinks, of course, who doesn't? The thing that really bums me out is when I get hungry while getting my drink on and have to order food off the place's dinner menu and I get a bill that smashes my bills, if you know what I mean. Hamachi is frikkin awesome cause they have a bunch of food at happy hour prices too, like spicy tuna rolls.

Loved it and So Did My Hard-to-Please Girl. I love my girlfriend, but she's what you'd call let's say "picky" about restaurants. She nagged me again that I don't take her out enough and told her I'd take her out more, if she didn't complain about every restaurant we go to and finally, I found a place that meets her approval! She loved the miso lobster special appetizer particularly and I had couple really cool rolls with broiled eel. Our waiter took good care of us, despite handling a ton of tables. Thanks again for giving me a nag-free night and a super meal. You'll see us again soon.

They Ruined My Birthday. The concept of good food and service and price point has been around since time began. None of that seems to matter at Hamachi. I went there for my birthday. I had a previous good experience there so I figured with the small bar and non-hipster scene, it would be a cool place. WRONG!!!!!!! The service was bad, management was even worse and didn't want to hear what I had to say. The food was run-of-the-mill at best and overly priced for the quality. Management actually was rude to me when I left. I can't understand why a small business like Hamachi would act like this especially in these economic times. I will never go to Hamachi again!

Gramercy's Japanese Gem. I like good food and I go to a lot of great restaurants in Gramercy to get it, but for the most part they are super expensive and more like once a quarter (on my dime) or for taking clients (expense accounts, yea!), not once or twice a week kind of places. On my way out of Gramercy Tavern one night, I noticed Hamachi and popped in for a nightcap. I had a great time at the bar which was filled with the kind of locals that make you make a bar your local. I came back for dinner and was wowed by the high quality of the sushi and the prices. Now I bring the fam by a couple times a week. Totally recommended.

Tasty, well-priced Japanese!. I have been here a handful of times and every time I am amazed that such a reasonably priced and delicious place exists in the city. I am ADDICTED to their rock shrimp and sweet potato roll!

My boyfriend is a huge fan of Japanese food and even he was impressed, which is a rarity.

Always a treat!!!

...as for the negative reviews, I can only hope that they are thinking of another Hamachi, because this restaurant is plain AWESOME!

Avoid at all costs. Poor management that couldn't care less about the customers, a weak bar. The management, most notably the manager/owner Mary is a very nasy person to deal with. If you have a special need, this is not the place. Management is unresponsive and rather you go elsewhere. The food is passable, but why deal with the attitude when you can go elsewhere and have a better time? Do avoid!

Incredible sushi; great prices. Try the Deep Impact roll and any of the specials Everything else is awesome too, but this is what my table had at our last visit and I'm still dreaming about it! Going out for sushi is always kind of expensive, but my friends and I get around that by ordering a bunch of rolls to share and the bento boxes, which have a ton of food inside for not a ton of money.
