What Our Expert Scouts Say

Gramercy Tavern

Danny Myers does it right. All impeccably executed food that tasted delicious.

Still, to my mind, the defining New York restaurant, Gramercy Tavern is the crown jewel in Danny Meyer's restaurant group, partially as the result of chef Michael Anthony's amazing greenmarket cooking, and partially because of its incredible service, great cocktails, and Nancy Olson's superb dessert program. One caveat: the front room is all air and color and excitement, and the back room is a drab dungeon.

A great place to get ripped. The reservation experience is quite hostile, especially when a woman calls to re confirm and sounds like she is scolding.

Our mojitos were mostly ice

what is called steak and pork has a lot of fat.

Not a good pastry chef.

We were so disappointed and it cost so much money!

From now on I am cooking.

Worth the long wait for a table.... I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and while we waited over an hour for a table the meal was memorable - we got a lot of food becuase there were a lot of things we wanted to try and it was worth every penny - i liked the pastrami, me lady liked the jerusalem artichoke soup - We got 3 desserts for 2 people and i have to point out that the tapioca pudding rocked - the waitress was super nice and they helped make the meal really special for my D's bday - At the end of the day thats what it was all about -

Just Quality. I'm giving it 4 stars since people only seem to be disappointed when they get hyped up about a place and inevitably are bummed out afterwards. You shouldn't be if you're just looking for a good night out - it's unpretentious, you are filled up to the gills for the amount you pay and its finger licking good, the service is great and the atmosphere can be loud but you know, I like it that way rather than feeling like the wait staff is hovering over you and watching your every move compared to other high-quality restaurants.

Delicious. Went here with my boyfriend and his father. It was absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable. The ambience was elegant if not somehow oddly casual. It must have been the large steel stars on the wall, reminded me of Texas. If I could afford it, I'd go back again. If you're looking for an overall wonderful dining experience, you won't go wrong here. And I recommend the Pineapple Upside Down dessert.

Please, may I move in?. I am in love with Gramercy Tavern. I've been there 2 times and I can't get enough. It's very hard to get a prime res but worth the effort. Do what you must! All staff starting at the front desk make you feel like a very special VIP - I know no other restaurant that does that. The ambience is exceptionally warm, inviting, and relaxing. The food is among the best I've ever had anywhere in the world and I've tried it all. The service is a dream, they don't miss a beat, they read your mind and know what you need and deliver it smoothly, quietly, perfectly. We have done both the 3 course prixe fixe and the 7 course tasting menu, both are excellent. We had paired wines with the 7 course which made it very special. The house cocktails are not to be missed - the peach basil fizz is a delicious original. If I had 1 itsy bitsy complaint it's that the people who deliver the dishes don't always speak clearly enough, so if you're doing a tasting you might notice it. Otherwise, I would describe this place as what all other restaurants should aspire to. Danny Meyer is doing things right. I feel so happy and relaxed when I eat here due to the magical chemistry of all the elements coming together seamlessly. Did I mention the food? Spectacular. Even the bathrooms merit praise, they are cozy, elegant, and offer privacy. The faint smell of the wood burning oven fills the dining room and makes you feel you are at a resort somewhere in the mountains. It is expensive but worth every cent. When the meal is done they give you a little bakery item to take home and enjoy the next morning. I always feel like I want to stay forever when I'm there! Gramercy Tavern is an enduring NY icon that never wears out or misses a step.

best i have had. Have been to Gramercy a few times, and every time I am blown away by everything, from the mind-blowing food to the incredibly smooth service. I've even dined at the bar and had the same kind of service as in the dining room - including a free appetizer just from having a conversation and not being able to decide on one thing. have spent unbelievable amounts of money here but don't regret a cent. The vegetable tasting menu is, in my opinion, the best option on the menu, I order it every time - Michael Anthony knows his veggies. Just wish they'd hurry up and change their menu so we can try some new things after 5 months...I'm impatient for more new masterpieces :)

One of my favorites.... If you haven't tried this NYC institution, I feel bad for you. Though the main dining room can be tricky to get rteservations, the Tavern is the best place to wander late afternoon...any day really. Awesome food, ridiculously careful and comfy service, and great martinis. Sit at the bar, eat the meatball, and watch them all work...Poetry in motion.

Great Food and Excellent Service. I come to NYC every 6 weeks or so and when I do, my friend loves for me to get totally rocked out and outrageously dressed in full leather to take me out to dinner. We like to do more than just fill our gullets or be "seen", we like to make it an event because we love food and see it as an adventure. We have gone to the Gramercy Tavern several times now because while we have tried a lot of other nice places, Gramercy is the one place where we are always treated with grace, a welcoming smile, and perfect food and service. The staff seems to really appreciate people who appreciate the food and their efforts to take it from just a meal to a real experience. The sommelier has always chosen the perfect wines for every course and we always feel we can put our taste buds in their skilled hands. The last time I was there I had a mouthwatering pork with this incredible parsley sauce and the duck terrine was amazing and had a nice, rustic texture peppered with pistachios. I can't stop thinking about it. My favorite dessert is the coconut tapioca with cilantro syrup and I almost always order it if it is on the menu. I think the best part of it besides the food and wine is that we always are made to feel at home there. It's elegant but cozy. They really seem to get the whole concept that return guests are what keep you in business and return we have, and always will!
