chinese. The food is always good but the staff are miserable.

I recently ordered take-out and they forgot to include an egg roll and than treated me as if I were trying to get one free. Needless to say, I lost the argument and they never made good on it.

Average chinese take away. Ive ordered take out from here a few times because it close to my house and is average to good but nothing specatcular. Have never ate at the dining room.

Great City-class restaurant in a charming neighborhood!. After years of shlepping to Chinatown for Chinese cousine, we discovered this newly-opened restaurant just four blocks away from our apartment, and we haven't been back to Chinatown for a meal since! The food is oustanding, always fresh and deliciously seasoned. Whether it's seafood, chicken, beef or vegetables, you can be assured of bountiful portions as good as it gets. In all the years, after gaining in popularity, their prices have held at the original low cost. We have had countless meals, brought many guests and have hosted several party's there and have never been disappointed! Do yourself a favor and add Cottage to your list of favorite restaurants, you'll be glad you did!

We live in Brasil now and never fail to eat there every time we visit New York, as does every Brazilian that we have referred there.

Very good cheap Chinese food. As mentioned in another post, the check comes a bit fast and the dishes are removed before you can put your fork down but I think that is why this is a great place for busy NY workers to grab a decent lunch within an hour. The food, although standard Chinese fare, is very good and fresh and the new decor is lovely. Yesterday the tea was cold but they quickly brought another teapot. Where else in NYC can you get a sit down lunch served to you for about $7.00 including tip? The place appears clean and the staff are very attentive. I've never ordered beyond the $5 lunch menu but I hear the rest of the food is good too.

Really good. This is my favourite chinese restaurant in the city. Yet there is something that makes it stop just short of great. The layout is nice and I love the food and the servers have always been kind to me. They just lack that extra special something. Anyway, I dine there at least twice a month.Oh I do have one issue. The check is often brought to the table before my meal is finished and the money is snatched up pretty quickly and the table cleaned. So I always wait until the very end to pay and tip.

Good, Solid, Reliable Performer. The Cottage Chinese Retaurant is on its way to becoming a neighborhood institution. It's been in the Gramercy area for over ten years. Moderate prices, good food, comfortable seating, nice atmosphere. Only a lack of the nth degree of refinement keeps it from a higher rating.

Over cooked. Poor The Szechuan Dumplings were like overcooked pasta mush! The Diced Chicken with Peanuts was all peanuts and about 4small I mean tiny pieces of chicken. The only thing good was the flavor. When commenting to the staff I was told " That's the way the Dish is cooked" ( I think there should be at least 50% of Chicken in a Chicken dish when it comes with peanuts)

SHOCKED!. Recently, I dined with my 18mo. niece early in the evening and was appauled by the service. Not only was the wait staff annoyed by her presence but before we were served one of the waiters wrestled a spoon from the child and snatched up all of our dishes! The child was not behaving in any way atypical of her age and certainly was not throwing anything. The waiter refused to stop at our table during the meal and the check was delivered before we had finished. I commented that the service was less than satisfactory and the waiter replied "M'am, it is no wonder that a child as awful as this belongs to a person like you".!! Not only was I completely shocked but the other patrons in our vicinity commented on how offended they were. I told management that I was disappointed and would never return.

Excellent. This restaurant is a great place for a quick bite before a show down in the village. It is extremely inexpensive, and the food is great. I have not seen better service in a long time going out into the city.
