In Short – A cheery blue-and-yellow exterior beckons passersby into this fun and funky bistro named for the emblem of Thailand. The spacious dining room's leopard prints, gold walls and disco balls attract a trendy East Village crowd. The menu showcases Thai-French favorites: fresh chopped hai (white fish) and salmon with Chinese black olives and basil oil; mussels in coconut-lemon grass broth; and garlicky octopus sauteed with ground pork, broccoli rabe and lime juice. Cinnamon-roasted chicken and Thai-spiced frites are signatures.

Cool bartender

by blgerson

My girl and I stopped in there before we went to meet some people at the next spot and I am glad that we did. We were the first people sit at the smaller more intimate bar and the bartender was mad cool with us.

He hooked up some free shots and a drink he "accidentally made" for someone else.

I got some vodka drink with lychee fruit in it. Tropical martini olive style. I will go back.

Interesting combination

by nyctraveller123

I went here a few weeks ago for a friend's birthday, so we had a relatively large group (9-10). The place was a bit crampted fro a party of our size, but the fun atmosphere more than made up for that.

Also, the selection of menu items was really interesting, don't know who thought to combined Thai and French, but it sure works. I went mostly French with the Duck confeit and it did not disapoint.

I would defenetly recomend this for a nice cosey date spot.

Be Aware - you may be ripped off

by HelloKitty

Be aware of this place! You may be ripped off!

My sister and I went to Elephant and wanted to use the Restaurant coupon. We need to order minimum $35 in order to be qualified to use the coupon. So we ordered 1 appetizer and 3 dishes and thought the overall price should be around $50.

When we saw the check, we almost had a heard attack! It's $100 ! The thing is that there are two kinds of price for each dish listed on the menu. The waitress didn't ask us what size of dish and gave us ALL large size (believe me, it's not a big portion at all!).

Even though the food is not bad, I look down on the dishonest way of doing business.

There are other better choices of Thai restaurants. It's not worth it to pay double and ruin our dinner!

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Dishonesty; Overpriced

o.k.

by vivicabo

Maybe I went on an off night, but I wasn't greatly impressed. The service wasn't great, and it was noisy and crowded. The food was tasty and had some unusual dishes. I have been to better Thai places in the East Village, especially for the price. A little overpriced for some good food, not the best.
